Default The new 911 will mirror the 993

Got some recent intel on the styling of the new 911 to debut in 2016. Seems that 911 purists are finally fed up with the recent breed of touring car that the 911 has become. The 2016 911 is set be downsized by 15% and look remarkably similar to the vaunted 993.

I'll believe it when I see it. I think the 911 has run its course and it's time to move on to a clean sheet (although I realize sales would disagree with me).

You're right, the 911 died with the 993, but I can't help but believe and hope that 911 will ultimatetly return to its roots.

So your saying the brand new 991 is only going to last 3 years?

^993 was only 4, not including the overlap in 94.

Sure you didn't dream this, influenced by wishful thinking?

Can't see a totally new car that quick either. The 996 and the heavily revised 997 it spawned were produced for close to 15 years. 991 was completely new structurally. 993 was only produced for 4 years but was an evolution.

Honestly, I'd love to see the 911 "shrink".

as much as i would love to see this happen, seriously doubt it. too much R&D and capital invested in the 991 to change it within just a few years.

did anyone hear that Iran is building a new style of camel with 4 humps, 1 is for transporting oil to the US and the other 3 are to cool the animal much like the 993. It will be 30% lighter being made of all new design and is set to debut in 2016

Don't by it . . . and just when the nue 2013 Cayman is catching this 993 owners eye.

Playing off this, I don't see how the 911 could shrink because it would too closely compete with the Cayman. At this point if you want a modern day 911 that offers the essence of the traditional concept, your already buying a Cayman.

You can't go home again, they have too much invested in the principles of, "common parts bin" and the economy of scale to go back. That being said, they may try to market a new model as "inspired by " or "in tribute to", but go back... NEVER

Default Day dreaming or Day tripping

To speculate more, what if the 991 replacement were to be the "new" 928. Then bring in a new Cayman based chassis with revised body to be the 993 like '16 911. But where to put the engine and how big to make the engine?

The internet is great, where anything can be true, even if proven false. ANd every day can be April 1st.
