So, the engine is out. I must say getting it prepped to drop was pretty straight forward, getting it out was a bit more finesse than the SC's and Carrera's I've done in the past. Our (my) big concern was getting the RH axle to clear the trans and really the starter. We could have removed the starter once we got the assy down some, like we had to do on the clutch slave cyl, but we went for it as a couple of write-ups: The new Bentley and the Porsche WSM don't mention having to do it, but Mike's Pcar DIY says remove. In the end, it may've been easier, but we did it without. 6 of one, 1/2 dozen....
As we lowered, we tried to pull back, but couldn't. Sharp eyes saw the two struts bolted to the nose of the trans, bolted with the bolt that goes through the big bushing. No write-ups mention them at all. But, Bentley and Mike's Pcar DIY seem to be done around a C4, which wouldn't have them. It was tough to get the trans down far enough to unbolt with the tension placed on the bolt. The culprits are shown in the last pic. They are indeed noted in PET.
So, now for the THANKS. Marc, Roger, Kirk, Mike, Matt, 2 Erics, Javier and Craig all came by. Whether it was crawling under the car, keeping eyes peeled, handing down tools, or simply moral support, what a great CREW! Thank you all, I REALLY appreciate the help. So, here are some pics of the process:

PS- I need to point out that with the cold weather we had Thursday, I think it was only mid-50's, my rear deck struts refused to strut-hence the dowel rod.

Seriously, glad everything worked out. Way beyond what I'd attempt but these "events" are always a joy to attend and in some way participate.....even if in my case that usually means getting the beer.
Thanks for posting!

So for a newbie's education, why are you doing all this? What parts are you putting in? What did the clutch feel like before? Would love to understand more and get in on the re-stuffing when ready.
Thanks
Joe

Thanks! So far: clutch/FW/RMS, lifters, plugs, chainbox gaskets, breather gasket, PS belt, SAI valve/cleaning, maybe wires, plugs, maybe reference sensors, maybe alternator-all pending inspection....& a bit of cleaning.
Too funny! Better than Kardashians.
Clutch was literally on-off, way at the end of travel. You're welcome to come down when it goes back in!

Thanks Eric-looks like Marc is trying "mind over matter" and wishing the engine down! Me, it looks like I was shot and fell, or collapsed after realizing what I'd started.
