I took a couple of photos of this piece of art with my Canon:

I was looking at the electrical side today, it seems quite straight forward. I have to prepare a simple harness for the sensors etc.
It looks like I can get new connectors (X60, X40/2 etc.) from Porsche, so I don't need to butcher my VR engine harness for the plugs.

Is there any reason I should not get a camshaft sensor and make it sequential injection?

Wastespark + sequential = works like a charm!

Nice engine Juha!

Quick question: On the scavage side of the turbos back to the center pump, the lines are pretty straight - I thought it would be good to have a raised bend on each line to prevent oil from going from the crankcase back into the turbo reservoir when the engine is shut off? Do those lines have check valves or am I missing something? (or not required on a track car..).

Cheers

Mike

Mike,

The black things on the return lines are indeed check valves.

That seems to be a more elegant solution than the bent pipe technique!

How exactly does wasted spark work on these engines, would there be 6 coil packs due to the twin plug design? Or is the evo motor single plug, needing just 3 coils?

Also, what's with the aluminum bracket at the top of the fan shroud? Is it to mount the intercooler?

This engine is twinplug so I have 2pcs wastespark coil units (6+6). One is firing the upper plugs and the other is firing the lower plugs.
It is exactly the same setup as I had on the supercharged engine.

With the camshaft position sensor I could go sequential ignition also but there is really no benefit for that in this application.

Yes, the aluminum bracket is for the intercooler.

Got the aluminum parts back, they were soda blasted. Look like brand new now. It will be nice to put in new bushings etc.

A little update.

The project has been idling for the past couple of weeks due to my trip to Japan (skiing) and busy work schedule.
I have been hunting parts and the most difficult ones seem to be the original Motorsport parts. I have sent two inquiries to Weissach via the local Porsche dealership but no answer. At the same time they get parts for newer CUP cars in 1-2 days. Maybe the boys at Weissach are not selling the old parts to just anyone?

Well, fortunately a friend of mine has good contacts to the racing shops in the Nurburgring area so with my excel list of parts and scanned motorsport catalog pages, they are hunting down the rest of the items.

I also got a message from Moton that they have started rebuilding my shocks. They will be revalved for slick use and also refinished so they will be like brand new. I'm a little afraid to see the final bill though...

The banana wing will be changed to either a newer CUP wing or the '13 GT3R wing.

Tonight was a night off so what would be better than spending it tearing down the 993. I gotta say the poor thing is completely in pieces now.

Pics or it didn't happen:

It's quite interesting to see the different approaches to same subject (shifter) by the folks of Stuttgart and of Weissach:
