My friend came over and we spent the entire afternoon in the garage with the 993.
We installed the rear subframes with the solid mounts and the tilt kit. Also started assembling the suspension. I should get the shocks back next week or so.

The ac/heater unit was taken out (it weighed abt 20lbs btw). The front hood was 32lbs.

The power steering reservoir along with the pressure an return lines were removed too.

Next week I'm going to buy a scissor lift so I can get the car upo and we can test fit the engine with the secan cooler and make brackets for the coil packs.

Got the scissor lift yesterday so tonight we slid it under the 993. Makes working on the car a hell of a lot easier!

oh yeah, I need to clean up the garage one of these days...

Thanks guys!

Captain Slow learning what Sisu means. That is my favorite track in Finland btw. Ahvenisto is the mini-Nürburgring

Oh yeah, the Finnish Porsche club is organizing a trip to SPA Francorchamps in October. Including a 4 day warm up session at the Nürburgring green hell driving days...

I'm going with the 997 though. I think I'd kill my self there with the GT2. Have to get familiar with the car again and also get some laps on both of those tracks.

Received some antimateria today from Germany ~-100kg

My buddy (the painter) came over to take a look at the roof project. The skin was a perfect fit. Even the front edge will go beneath the windshield gasket.
We decided to just paint it and glue it on. Also the doors and the rear bumper will be painted next week. The hood will have to wait until I get the fuel cell so I can make the hole for the filler neck.

The parts were made by Hahn GFK in Germany. The same company who made this parts for the EVOs. Quality is top notch and fitment is perfect as you can see in the photos.

I looked more carefully at the flat bottom... It is just awesome!!!
The bottom of the 993 is already quite flat so you ask what is the difference...?
The difference is 85mm (over 3"), that is how much lower this panelling will be than the bottom of the tub. This reduces the air space below the car, which accelerates the flow and results in so called "ground effects", if I'm not mistaken.
I think this was only allowed in the FIA GT1 class and prohibited in the GT2/3 classes.
The panelling will be on the same level as the EVO side skirts I already have on the car.

The rear piece has a diffusor that rises up to the rear of the bumper. The front piece has a duct that channels air over the steering rack into the shifter tunnel. I think the purpose of this is to lead cool air for the transmission cooler...?
My problem is that I have the brake vacuum booster there, which is not the case on a GT2 as those have hydraulic boosters.
I don't see any reason to convert to the more complicated hydraulic booster system so I'll just modify the duct so it clears the booster.

Seems like a bolted in cage is less than adequate for this set up, why not a full welded cage though firewalls to the shock towers?

Yeah, it's not ideal...
The plan was to do the build in stages but you know how it goes. Things get out of hands.

The bolted cage is FIA certified for the 993 chassis and I think what separates it from typical bolt-in cages is the fact that you can pre-tension it.
i.e. in a crash there is no slack that would multiply the kinetic energy. I think that makes a big difference.
I also don't think the roof is any more dangerous with the CF skin vs. steel skin.

Maybe next winter I will put in a proper welded cage. Let's see...
