How to fit 993 front bumper to wing (fender) seals
We were asked in the Mission Creep build thread to show how the seals are installed to the front PU (bumper) prior to fitting it to the car, so here goes:
The seals are glued and stapled into place, thus stage one is to degrease the paint on the PU with panel wipe or meths, followed by some careful application of masking tape which protects the visible raised lip of the PU from adhesive.

Marc is showing Rob the correct position of the rubber seal with the edge of the seal inner edge flush with the back of the bumper flange.
Rob then applied heavy duty contact adhesive to the flat section of the PU. We use an industrial strength glue that we buy in for carpet installation, however regular Evo Stick or similar would be fine.

More glue is then painted onto the seal, taking care to apply it only on the flat area, avoiding the radius edge. It helps when the cameraman holds down the other end of the seal.

Once the contact adhesive has "flashed off" the seals can be glued onto the PU, obviously taking care to align the inner edges and end positions of the seals. Once happy with the position, the masking tape is removed.

Starting in the middle of the seal, we then use an air gun to staple the seal to the plastic bumper. The staples fire through the PU with ease, leaving tails under the lip.

Finally you fold over the tails flush under the lip, then tap down lightly with a pair of pliers or similar metal object. Do this to both sides and you are ready to fit the PU.

Final job is to bolt the bumper onto the car using all the standard fasteners. Fit the seal correctly and the joint will look as good as this. The metal ends of the seals simply fold around to hold the end profile in position, under the clamp plate on the bonnet joint and back under the wing lip at the back.

Thanks Colin, nice DIY!
I use a very similar technique with a few tweaks:
- I position the seal using small clips and then outline the seal on the bumper with a felt pen -then I know where the glue goes. I also use the same clips to hold the seal in place while the glue sets.
- I use stainless steel staples (T50's), and press them in with a set of flat nosed pliers. I find the 1/4 staples do not protrude as much as the ones you show on the bottom side.
- when placing the bumper cover, it's tricky fitting - I usually have to pull the center top of the cover up to take away some width to place the bumper between the metal fenders. For anyone who as done this, you will know what I mean..
Cheers,
Mike
