Looking for Fister users in Dallas/North Dallas area

I'm usually one to go with the Fister III (more aggressive) option on a car, but I'm curious what the Fister II sounds like and whether it might be a potentially better option. I've read all the reports and listened to sound bytes online, but nothing replaces hearing it in person. So, is there anyone in the Dallas/North Dallas area that has a 993 with Fister IIs or IIIs?? I would love to meet sometime and hear your exhaust firsthand. Thanks.

bbs993tt 11-12-2013 11:13 AM

I know there are some with IIIs but don't know of any with IIs.

rsabeebe 11-12-2013 12:55 PM

actually, hearing the IIIs would be just fine, as that's the way i'm leaning. i'll know by the sound if i'll want them or not. problem is, i haven't even heard from a FIII user yet...

you don't by chance store your GT somewhere in North Dallas, do you? ;-)

The IIIs sound fantastic and the guys I know that have them wouldn't change them for anything.

I do store the cgt up north!

Tell us about your c4s...

CorrdoBrit 11-12-2013 03:27 PM

I have Fister II's on my C2 and would love to hear the III's in person. Maybe we can arrange a mini meetup.....

97_993C2 11-12-2013 07:04 PM

I have Fister IIIs on my C2. I'm also retired so I am flexible about a meeting time. :D

rsabeebe 11-12-2013 08:04 PM

now we're talkin'!! i feel a mini gathering developing... why don't we let this nice cold front pass and then discuss a time to meet. i have a part coming in from germany and the car will head into the shop when it arrives. should be a quick turnaround, so maybe in a week or 2 for the meet? i would hate to show up in my 951 instead of the 993. as we decide on a time/place, i'll post it as a 'gathering' of sorts, if others would like to join us.

rsabeebe 11-12-2013 08:05 PM

where is everyone coming from? i live in west plano - close to Park and the tollway.

mdude 11-12-2013 10:29 PM

All for DFW meet. Sat AM for those of us not yet retired...

13BEEZ 11-13-2013 12:32 AM

I just registered and am in the Parker/Allen area. Would love to meet some fellow owners and especially hear the Fister IIs and IIIs. That is close to the top of the list as the motorsport package just doesn't cut it for me. Hoping this meet will take place sometime after Thanksgiving.

Not this weekend as I'm heading down to COTA for the F1 race.:burnout:

Maybe the following Sat weather permitting. I'm in Irving so perhaps we can meet at RAC which is probably pretty central for everyone. Are they still running their special enthusiast weekend events?

SC2993 11-13-2013 08:47 AM

I am in Frisco, let me know when/where!

KLSpeed27 11-13-2013 09:03 AM

I am interested as well. Been on the fence deciding between IIs or IIIs to actually hear them in-person would be fantastic!

I'm in South Arlington.

97_993C2 11-13-2013 09:25 AM

I also live in Irving. Saturday mornings are usually good, but I have a commitment for this Sat so waiting until later works for me, too.

I don't believe RAC does their monthly gatherings any more - at least I haven't been invited. ;) They have moved one street over and the facilities are 100 times nicer, but there is no additional parking other than what's out front so it depends how many of us there are. However, it is centrally located and it would be a good opportunity for those of you who have never been there to see RAC.

I've also met at 4 or 5 different Starbucks on or just off of the Dallas Tollway in the past.

JB 911 11-13-2013 10:56 AM

I'm in. I'm in Plano and would love to meet to drool over some other 993's. A Starbucks off the Tollway sounds good!

So Rich, how about some pics of this black beauty? Two this month in the area no less???

willus 11-13-2013 11:14 AM

I'm in for any Saturday in December. It will be great to meet other DFW 993 owners and hear the Fister comparison.

mdude 11-13-2013 01:02 PM

Remaining Sats in Nov are not good. If those work for most, then go ahead w/o me :crying:. Otherwise, all Sats in Dec are fine.

Anywhere in DFW will do, if next to a Starbucks even better. Would prefer early in morning starting anytime between 7-9am.

Looking forward to meeting some fellow DFW 993-ers.

bbs993tt 11-13-2013 01:55 PM

Wow, lots of dfw 993s surfacing! Love it!

While I'm not necessarily invited, I'd suggest RAC also if only because the party/Fister demonstration can be brought indoors in case of bad weather.

SonnyT 11-13-2013 02:04 PM

Howdy y'all, so it's a Texas sized meet :) Count me in, haven't been to the RAC in years, who's gonna ask RAC?. Zimms has a big lot as well, I can ask there

cajunboy 11-13-2013 02:08 PM

I'm in grand prairie. Nov 30 I'm free

Zim's works for me too. They wrench on my car.

A Sat morning in Dec is going to be best.

KLSpeed27 11-13-2013 02:50 PM

Zim's on a Saturday morning works for me, just name a time and date...

Zims does my car too. Either RAC or Zims will work anyway...

JB 911 11-13-2013 05:26 PM

That's because Brian doesn't have Fisters installed. Actually he doesn't have any mufflers installed on his turbo.

rsabeebe 11-13-2013 06:37 PM

Wow. Now we really have something going here. Great to see that a request for a Fister exhaust 'comparison' has turned into a local 993 gathering. I've only been in the Dallas area for about 4 years and still haven't gotten into the car culture here as much as I was in MD. Will be nice to meet some 993 owners in the area.

Now that we're beyond a couple of cars meeting in a Starbucks parking lot one morning, why don't I ask RAC if we can work something out to use their front lot at their new location. I've been dealing with Hans and Spencer a lot lately and I'm sure they'd be interested in having a 993 gathering at their facility - especially if they don't have to do anything in particular to entertain us. If it seems to be a central location for many, I don't see why we can't work something out with them.

Recent posts seem to indicate an early December meet time is best for most. Should we consider Dec. 7th and see if RAC is willing to accommodate us? I'll make the call, if that works for most. If we have continued interest, I can see this being an occasional event.

We do have to make sure some Fister II and III equipped cars make it to this event - it was the initial concept, after all.

rsabeebe 11-13-2013 06:41 PM

i wanted to amend the thread title to include '- 993 gathering in North Dallas'. it doesn't appear changing a thread title is possible once initiated - anyone know if there is a way?

SonnyT 11-13-2013 07:05 PM

rsaBB, dec 7 at Ruf is as good a date as any. All of us would appreciate it if you can contact RAC to finalize. Thanks

Brian also offered. He knows them pretty well since he keeps his CGT there.

cajunboy 11-13-2013 08:54 PM

Dec work for me..I'm in.

Texas993 11-13-2013 08:59 PM

Sounds good to me. I'll be at RAC tomorrow and can mention it to them. But Brian offered to lead the conversation with RAC, so I will let him.

There are a few of us already connected in DFW, it will be nice to expand the group!

lil walk 11-13-2013 09:53 PM

December works for me as well. Just say when and I'm there. I look forward to meeting you all.

I'm a Arlington resident.

mdude 11-13-2013 11:44 PM

Come to think about it, if you folks can wing it RAC may be a better venue than ZIMs. There're road construction right outside ZIMs and their parking lot can be very dusty...

Dec 7th's looking to be the deal. Or I'm good w/ another other Sat AM in Dec.

CorrdoBrit 11-14-2013 12:46 AM

Dec 7th at RAC works for me

wheelerdealer55 11-14-2013 01:42 AM

I'd love the chance to meet up with fellow 993 DFWers at RAC. December 7th sounds perfect, but isn't that also Cars and Coffee day at BMW Plano?

Doing it on the C&C day is a great idea. We could meet at RAC at about 9. The C&C starts early and it is a bit nuts the later the morning gets.

Just how many 993 RL'ers there? Wow, folks are really coming out of the woodwork!

KLSpeed27 11-14-2013 09:44 AM

rsabeebe 11-14-2013 11:19 AM

pm returned bbs993.

rsabeebe 11-14-2013 11:23 AM

actually, a december C&C might actually be a little bit on the mellow side as far as attendance. depends on the weather that day. maybe we can plan to make an appearance there sometime in the future and show up with a ton of 993s. i rarely see more than 1 or 2 993s there on a given saturday. i remember the 928 guys showed up one day and that was great to see - as a previous 928 owner. they took up most of a row where the porsches normally are.

mdude 11-14-2013 11:47 AM

I don't see much 993s at C&C, at most two (that's including yours truly); so doing our meet on the same day as C&C shouldn't pose an issue.

If as Texas993 said we meet at 9 at RAC, it still leaves much time to check out C&C from, say, 6:30am to 8'ish and swing to Carrollton by 9; for those so inclined.

bbs993tt 11-14-2013 01:51 PM

Gentlemen,

I just spoke to RAC and they are more than happy to host this 993 gathering on December 7 at 9:00am. In addition to providing the meeting place, they will provide coffee service and we can move the gathering/Fister demonstration indoors in case of bad weather or to hear the Fisters bounce off walls.

For those who haven't been to RAC, their new location is at the southwest corner of Midway and Skylane, adjacent to the west side of Addison Airport. They typically use their "front" parking lot (right at the corner) for displaying for sale cars, but they will reserve it for our gathering.

I know some have posted that you can attend, but if you can come for sure, please reply (again) to this thread so I can give them a head count. Look forward to meeting more 993 owners!!!!

KLSpeed27 11-14-2013 01:56 PM

Is this taking place at RAC Carrolton ?
If so can I ask a favor?

Assuming nothing goes south the sale of my C4S should complete tomorrow :crying:

The car caused it's own demise by being sooooo much fun at DEs these year. It's way to pretty to make into a track rat and I can't offered both so I'm moving on.:(

I noticed this on eBay and thought it might make a good starter race car:

Hi Rich, That could have been me. I just got my 993 in July and have been driving it as much as I can. I was on Park last week running over to the Costco and then the next day to Plano Porsche.

Hi Rich,

I am north of you, just north of Coit and Legacy. I think I might have seen your 951.

When I first drove into Plano with my 993, a black 951 went past me and waved (you?), then when I pulled into the Dickey's on Preston a Speed Yellow 930 pulled into the lot behind me, circled and waved and then went on his way. All within 5 minutes.

My wife, who always wondered why I wanted a Porsche 911, was impressed. She said this never happened to her when she bought a new Ford!

pretty amazing to see a 951 and SY 930 within 5 minutes when you're already in a 993. there's something special about keeping these 'older' porsches on the road. it blows my mind to think that my 951 is NEARLY 30 years old!! that 930 was probably similar in age.

no waves for Ford owners, huh?? time for the wife to buy a Porsche.

rsabeebe 11-19-2013 02:48 PM

20 cars already. i'm impressed!! should we get excellence or panorama to cover this?? :roflmao:

If any of you guys have a ROW 033 suspension or any other combination with a comfortable ride I would love to get a short ride with you. I would be happy to let you feel what my JIC coil overs and TRG sway bars feels like. Without knowing what the baseline 993 ride feels like I hesitate to change my current setup.

Thanks,
rick

yes, many years ago. that M5 was my first M car and led to an E30 M3 (loved that car), an E36 M3 and an E36 LTW. I was heavily involved in the BMW CCA in MD and spent 2 years as the President of the National Capitol Chapter there. NCC is the 2nd largest chapter behind Golden Gate. had many E30s and '02s as well and even raced an E30 325is in SCCA and BMW. it's hard to find a really nice E28 M5 now and then the prices are at a premium. i knew several owners years ago, but i doubt many of them own those cars any longer. my M5 was sold to a friend and then it was sold to a mutual friend of both of ours. actually, all my M cars were sold to friends. keep looking - you'll find one. that S38 motor is a great mill.

Hi Bill, I'm glad you are attending this event, maybe we can convoy together , also it will be nice if you can bring one of you Pcar mount packages and throw in the raffle :icon501:

well, if everyone throws in $25, we'd have $525 at the moment - enough to cover a set of Fisters. if there is interest, i can work up some special dual tickets (previous life as a graphic designer/artist) we can use and have a drawing at the event. if someone already has their Fisters, they can put it towards another upgrade. interest?

If you decide to do it I am up for a ticket or two.

Except, right before you distribute them, can I get the one you were about to give to 13BEEZ? And I'm not playing poker with that guy either! :D

By "working", you must be referring to your garage. Still waiting for my invitation to eat lunch in there......

Garage is pretty much done! You know you're invited next time you come to town.
I'll actually be flying overhead during this gtg coming back from Cali.

Fister III

Did someone say 993?

Have been out of the Rennlist loop for a while...time to get right!

Have Fister III's (don't think I would have anything else) and hope to be able to attend. Son's National FB tournament starts that Saturday but if game starts late enough - will certainly be there.

i just want to make sure that everyone understands that the raffle will be a 'cash' prize with the intentions of buying a Fister exhaust. if you have a Fister exhaust or are not interested in an exhaust upgrade, it's your money to spend however you would like. just wanted to clarify that.

And .... check out my back-up Fister installation (I never win raffles) .... I now have an MP3 version of the Fister III exhaust sound stripped out of one of the online Fister-on-993 YouTube videos that I uploaded as a special Fister playlist onto my Droid RAZR MAXX HD smartphone.

I can play it back through my CDR 220 stereo system on demand .... and really crank up the volume .... not quite the same as the real deal ... but not too bad.

The forecast for next weekend is starting to look sketch...

rsabeebe 12-02-2013 12:54 PM

definitely not looking that great at the moment. we have the 'wintery mix' coming in late thursday through friday and then very cold temps for saturday morning - at the moment. we do have indoor facilities available apparently, if the weather does not cooperate, but i fear we will lose the out of town participants if the weather continuing in this pattern. of course, tomorrow it's going to be 75 and sunny!!

axl911 12-02-2013 01:01 PM

I'll bring my ducktailed 993. The wet wintry mix may do me a favor since it will mask the accumulative dirt on my daily driven 993.

rsabeebe 12-02-2013 02:19 PM

UPDATE on the raffle for the Fister exhaust - initially, i had planned on this being a raffle for the people attending the gathering, but since we have a number of interested parties who will not be attending the actual event, i'll need to have those funds some time this week for you to be included in the raffle. if you would like to send funds, to be included in the raffle, please PM me and i will send you my mailing address. assuming the event is still held this saturday, i will need those funds asap to be included in the final number of entries this weekend. i apologize for the late notice on this, but i hadn't realized that a number of the people who voted would not be at the event in person. if everyone who voted follows through with a ticket purchase, we're currently at $525 - a perfect amount for an exhaust from FD.

993 Gathering update

Greetings all,

I wanted to update everyone on this Saturday’s 993 gathering at RAC Performance at 9am.

• I know the weather is causing some mental constipation, but as of now, the event will go as planned. With all the Christmas toy drives and vacations, postponing would push us well in to January. If it’s dry, please don’t let the cold weather scare you away – just dress appropriately and step inside RAC’s facility to warm up.

• In addition to being our host location, pastries and coffee will be courtesy of RAC and Office Perks (CoffeeMan, Scott).

• There will be 2 raffles – one is for those who want to buy $25 raffle tickets with the prize being the money to buy Fisters. The second will be only for those in attendance and will not require any entry fee. Darin has donated some gift certificates and t-shirts and Bill48 has donated a nifty PCARMOUNT (device to securely attach phone/gps to your car). Thanks to rsaeebe (Rich), who is handling both raffles so please see him for tickets to each.

• For those who are into instant gratification, RAC has purchased a couple of sets of Fisters (I believe a set each of IIs and IIIs) from Darin who is working hard to have them finished in time for the event. The raffle winner can use the winnings to purchase one of the sets and RAC has generously donated free installation to the raffle winner!! RAC tech Bob McAfee on hand to answer any questions. Should the Fisters not be finished in time for the event, RAC will still honor the free install at a later date for the winner.

• The set the raffle winner doesn’t choose will be available for purchase at the same cost as if buying directly from Darin. Future orders for Fisters can now be placed through RAC, again at the same cost.

• On Saturday, please come inside first, get a nametag, have some coffee and pastries and once everyone has had a chance to arrive we’ll do a quick meet and greet. We’ll then go outside for CorrdoBrit (still don’t know his first name) and 97_993C2 (Dan) to do a Stage II and Stage III sound off. Some time after the sound off, rsabeebe will conduct the raffles. After the raffle, we’ll just hang out and talk cars until RAC kicks us out.

Again, many thanks to those making this event possible – RAC Performance, FD Motorsports, Office Perks and PCARMOUNT.

Everything sounds great!! Cold will not hold me back:D
But rain will :icon501:
Hopefully it will be a dry cold day:burnout:

mdude 12-03-2013 02:14 PM

Temp doesn't faze me.
As long as it's dry, or dry enough, I'll be there.
All bets are off if there is indeed a wintry mix...

In any case, I thank Brian, RAC and others for putting this event together.

KLSpeed27 12-03-2013 04:18 PM

Now I'm really glad I have my Conti DWS's on the car...winter weather is no problem (see avatar.)

Same here. If its wet/icy I'll be driving the Audi Quattro.

Someone do the anti-rain dance so water/ice doesn't fall from the sky. Otherwise, dfw may not escape it like we did 2 weeks ago.

I should be there with the Fister IIIs if it is not freezing rain.

make sure you see me early saturday, likely inside RAC, to get your exhaust raffle ticket(s) and your general raffle ticket.

I realize I'm new and jumping in on this quite late but would love to meet you guys and behold whatever cars make the trip. Would love to hear the Fisters...YouTube is great but can't possibly do it justice. Put me down for at least one raffle ticket as well.

Fingers crossed the weather holds out.

Please note that I will be sure to arrive bib in hand for any drool that might elude a shirt sleeve.

hmmmm. i made 30 tickets for each raffle. i may have to consider another sheet of general raffle tickets, just in case.

nearly 30 993s in one spot should be quite the site - assuming we all make it.

Hey All - while I will be there, it'll actually be in a late model Accord as Kate remains in pieces. If all goes to plan - she'll be road ready by month's end but Saturday I'll simply be there to admire and chat.

If anyone wants to take in my Pearl Royal Blue boring sedan, I certainly won't stop them...but this is more about you guys than me.

Very much looking forward to meeting everyone.

Yes. See me for tickets.

97_993C2 12-05-2013 02:43 PM

OK. I need some advice as to what I should do. I can take my 993 with the Stage IIIs over to RAC this afternoon before the weather hits, assuming they are expecting me and have a place to put it. However, it will be sitting there all weekend taking up space if the weather is so bad that no one can show up Saturday morning.

Or I can just wait until Saturday and attempt to drive over that morning, assuming the roads are not completely iced over.

How many of you will show up in your non-Porsche vehicles - those of us without C4(S)s and Turbos ;) - if the weather is only kind of bad just to meet and listen to the exhausts?

Texas993 12-05-2013 02:48 PM

Dan, it just depends! If the roads are drivable, but have any slick on the roads, I will come in the SUV. Obviously, if the roads are closed and impassable, I'll stay home by the fire.

RAC should have no problem finding space for your car. That place is huge!

rsabeebe 12-05-2013 04:02 PM

since all the precipitation is due to come in tonight through tomorrow morning, i'm hoping the roads will be easily passable by saturday morning. saturday is supposed to be overcast right now, but no rain/ice. i'm thinking the unfortunate part is going to be the cold temps on saturday and little chance we'll be hanging out by the cars, unless RAC plans for us to bring them indoors - which they may plan for anyway and have the large front bay open for us already. that would be ideal.

if necessary, i'm sure RAC will house your car as long as you need. they really do have sufficient space over there. the issue would be for you to make arrangements to get it to them tonight before they close and get picked up.

97_993C2 12-05-2013 04:52 PM

I had not heard that about the precipitation ending. I've decided to take the car over this afternoon since I would hate for everybody to show up and not have Fister IIIs to listen to because I was unable to to handle the driving conditions. Patrick had already offered to pick me up.

See you all there at 9:00 Saturday.

wheelerdealer55 12-05-2013 06:42 PM

Same story here...I'm looking forward to getting there in my P car, but if ice is in the mix I'll be there in something "less fashionable" :-)

techsis 12-05-2013 07:17 PM

I am about 40 miles north of RAC and my Northern facing house windows have solid 1/4" ice coverage.

My driveway is all ice from the freezing rain.

I am so disappointed as I really wanted to see all our 993s together.

It's not Sat Am yet...

csmab 12-05-2013 07:39 PM

What are the odds that we would have a winter storm the weekend of this event!!! Bummer. Hopefully the roads will dry out by Sat A.M. since the precipitation stops Friday around midday. I still plan on going. Not sure it the C4S will be coming or not.

techsis 12-05-2013 07:55 PM

I might be forced to drive the new 958 Cayenne Turbo with Fabspeed exhaust. The meanest sounding SUV I have ever heard :-)

But the '95 FZJ80 is a more likely my mode of transport.

RAC can't accommodate us then. If we don't do it Saturday it won't happen until mid-January at the earliest.

Precip is to be over tomorrow around noon. I'm hoping that will allow plenty of time for things to dry up.

97_993C2 12-05-2013 10:38 PM

Well things didn't work out and my 993 didn't make it to RAC this afternoon. Here's hoping we have at least semi-clear roads Saturday.

Hey guys, I think this would be the best course of action, even if we have to move it out to Jan. The temps are below freezing until Sunday, so the side roads are going to be iced up. Showing up in my truck for a 993 gathering would be no fun.

bbs993tt 12-06-2013 05:05 PM

****OFFICIAL UPDATE****

Here’s the deal. I’ve been driving around quite a bit today and the roads are mostly wet and/or slushy. The problem is there hasn’t been enough traffic today to dry the roads out. Combine that with the hard re-freeze that we’re expecting tonight and I think we’ll be covered in a sheet of ice tomorrow morning. I even drove by RAC and their parking lot went untouched today so tomorrow it will be better suited for some pond hockey than a 993 gathering.

I’ve spoken to Hans a couple of times and as much as I hate to do this, I think it best to postpone this event altogether. I certainly don’t think it’s worth risking our precious 993s (996s would have been ok……….jk) when we can simply do this another time. If some of you know others that may not see this post, please make sure word gets around about the postponing.

I will get together with Hans in the near future and propose a new date so stay tuned. Thanks again to RAC, FD Motorsports, Office Perks, PCARMOUNTS and rsabeebe. I especially appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm and participation and look forward to gathering in the near future.

willus 12-06-2013 05:33 PM

Beyond bummed, but agree with the call. Hope to see everyone in January!

97_993C2 12-06-2013 06:32 PM

Probably the right decision, Brian. Thanks for all your efforts. I was sweating having to slide over to RAC tomorrow, or drive through salty slush in the P-car.

Correct call given the road conditions Brian, will look forward to a new time for the 993's to get together! Probably couldn't get out of the garage anyway,
there's a TX snowdrift in my way!

even though we're all disappointed, it's clearly the right call at this time. with the re-freeze tonight, the roads tomorrow morning would be sketchy at best. thanks to Brian for working with RAC and Hans to reschedule this event in the near future. we clearly have a solid 993 enthusiast group here and should attempt additional events like this in the future. i guess our 'lucky winner' will have to wait a bit longer for their new Fister exhaust. the raffle tickets are at the ready.

Hey guys, I will be in Dallas/Arlington area for the HS football playoffs this Saturday , I will like to see if some of you guys wanted to hook up for coffee sat morning, I spoke to Brian today and asked if there was any P cars gathering going on this Saturday and he didn't find anything:(

Will love to see some p cars this sat :)

JB 911 12-17-2013 08:26 PM

Depends, are you bringing Vesuvius????? :D

Just kidding, I wouldn't bring any nice car to any high school football game so can't blame you if it's a no. I'm up for a cup of Joe and P car chat. Somewhere off the Tollway, would be cool. Earlier the better...

PS You do know you ain't gonna spank Cedar Hill like you did Johnson right?

That's why we should never get drunk at the Christmas Party it can interfere with cars and coffee along with other more embarrassing side effects :roflmao: At least that's what someone told me once :icon107: I'll post up the time and place when we get it figured out if anyone else can come...

Rich, so far just what you see here! Have you taken your Daughter to Mama's before? My kids love it. That has gone way out of style....

Vandit, bring it on, maybe Rudy will make you a deal on something you can't refuse :D

Dan, cool, I've heard your car before, but since the RAC event got postponed I was really looking forward to it. Hey if it's raining just come in a reg car and we'll eat...

lol, I have a friggin' 964 parked in the garage, except the mechanic charged with working on it is slow, sometimes unmotivated, and frequently encounters nuisance-like setbacks.

we have taken her there once. we went there one night after an event at her school - Primrose. It's pretty much right behind Mama's, but the entrance is from Plano Pkwy. love the atmosphere - BIG fan of old style diners (grew up in Baltimore) and it's not a bad place. if i can get out, i'll try to make it.

******ANOTHER OFFICIAL UPDATE******

I've discussed a new date with all the key players and January 11, 2014 works best for our rescheduled gathering. I hope this date works for everyone and sincerely apologize if it doesn't. As an added bonus, Darin Fister himself has decided to fly in and attend!!! Otherwise, same gig as last time except hopefully without the frozen stuff (repost of details below).

We’ll then go outside for CorrdoBrit (Haydn) and 97_993C2 (Dan) to do a Stage II and Stage III sound off. Some time after the sound off, rsabeebe will conduct the raffles. After the raffle, we’ll just hang out and talk cars until RAC kicks us out.

Again, many thanks to those making this event possible – RAC Performance, FD Motorsports, Office Perks, rsabeebe and PCARMOUNTS.

In order to get an accurate headcount, let's start a new list.

1. FisterD - Darin

Previous mailed in raffle checks

For the 2 people who previously had mailed me raffle ticket checks, I wanted to let you know that I still have them and they have not been deposited yet. Since the weather looked so sketchy, I held on to them just in case. Unless you would like any changes, those checks will now be used to purchase tickets for the upcoming Jan. 11th event.

PM directly with any questions or issues. Thanks.

turnout is looking good, but i'm still hoping that we get close to the original 28 that signed up initially.

i have replied to the PMs, but if you have questions about the Fister raffle tickets, please let me know.

rsabeebe 12-30-2013 04:11 PM

purchasing the raffle tickets

just a clarification on the raffle ticket sales. anyone attending the event in person can buy their tickets from me that saturday morning @ RAC. i'm only accepting checks from people who can not attend the show in person. PM with questions.

depending on the number of tickets sold (@ $25/each), you will either have a significant portion of the funds necessary for a set of Fister mufflers or possibly a small surplus of cash after winning the mufflers. since Darin will be in attendance, i'm planning on having him pull the winning ticket.

I sent Rudy some additional rennlist nametags, since only 25 were in the first letter.

PM sent regarding the drawing...probably need some additional FD pieces this winter...might as well join in.

Good to see we've picked up some new attendees that weren't on the first list. I know Coffeeman and lreeves993 will be there but they don't frequent RL and haven't added their names to the list.

Sorry Willus won't be able to join. Anyone know rickdm, Lil Walk or adame993? They signed up for the first gathering but haven't yet for this one.

Sorry Willus won't be able to join. Anyone know rickdm, Lil Walk or adame993? They signed up for the first gathering but haven't yet for this one.

rickdm sold his 4S so he might not be joining.

Looking forward to this gathering! Anyone available afterwards to grab some lunch? I would love to hang out with some of the Texas crew and have some good Texas BBQ

2 feet of snow here, and wind chill 's of -20...the thought of almost 30 993's in the same place...at the same time, your killing me.

Hey, if it makes you feel any better, most of us don't drive much in July and August when it's 95-105...

But besides that, I'd say next weekend could be a great weekend getaway trip to DFW

i'm definitely in for some lunch afterwards and bbq is the perfect meal. there's a Spring Creek bbq right down the road from RAC, but others might have suggestions of better 'texas' bbq. spring creek is just super convenient. my office is about a block from that restaurant and we go there frequently for monday 'meeting lunches'.

there's also a Twin Peaks at beltline and the tollway that has surprisingly good food and beer and the waitresses are easy on the eyes.

i've only been here 4 years and 95 degree days in the summer now feel mild - seriously. it's nothing like 95 and high humidity in the mid-atlantic region. the first summer i was here was the 3 months or whatever of 100+ days, missing the all-time record by one day, iirc. i remember multiple days heading home from work at 110-112. THAT was insane. everything since then has been a breeze. i thought i made the worse mistake ever that first summer!!!

Sat is looking OK so far. Only 10-20% chance precip.

It took you two days to wash/wax...? Were you doing the whole polish/orbiter thing?

Yeah, typically wash/clay/polish/wax. Only did a quick wash/polish this time, but my car was just so dirty from the freeze we had several weeks ago. It took two washes to get the dirt off!!!

rsabeebe 01-07-2014 05:41 PM

you might have a shot @ washing again (and re-applying more lipstick) on thursday and then leave it at home on friday. could still be clean by saturday morning, assuming there's no rain in the AM.

i'm hoping for a little clean up before saturday myself, but i'm driving it every day this week.

csmab 01-07-2014 10:47 PM

Wash...rinse...repeat. It's a never ending process for those of us anal about keeping our cars clean.

bbs993tt 01-09-2014 01:42 AM

Saturday's almost here and it looks like the weather is going to cooperate this time. Here's a reminder of the details for Saturday:

Please come inside first, get a nametag, have some coffee and pastries and once everyone has had a chance to arrive we’ll do a quick meet and greet. We’ll then go outside for CorrdoBrit (Haydn) and 97_993C2 (Dan) to do a Stage II and Stage III sound off. Some time after the sound off, rsabeebe (Rich) will conduct the raffles. We'll get a quick head count of those who want to go to Spring Creek with Darin for some bbq. After that, we’ll just hang out and talk cars until RAC kicks us out.

Looking forward to seeing everyone............and your 993s!

Opo 01-09-2014 01:49 AM

Can't wait!
One question for the local guys, I will be arriving Friday about 3pm, it looks like I'm going to get some rain on the road, does anyone know a Mobil detail guy that can come to my hotel garage and clean my car? Vesuvius doesn't look good dirty:crying:

Try Josh Ottmann. http://www.ottmanndetailing.com/. I know he goes to people's homes with a water supply but don't know if he has one of those portable water tank/sprayer things. Bigger issue is that he's usually booked a couple of weeks in advance.

Texas993 01-09-2014 10:43 AM

Opo,

A couple of other suggestions. Call Hans at RAC and they may have their guy clean up your car if you arrive early. Carlos, the detailer, is a good guy and does a good job.

I have a mobile guy who does our "Regular" cars. Salvador (214) 397-6885

csmab 01-09-2014 01:26 PM

Brian - We also need to add Shadow993 "David" to the sound off. He has Fister III's with Fabspeed sport cats (200 cell). It will give a nice comparison to those who want to go even louder than Fister's with stock cats.

bbs993tt 01-09-2014 02:29 PM

Sounds like a plan

Opo 01-09-2014 02:40 PM

Guys, thank you for all the response, I haven't got a hold of Hans just yet, I did talk to Salvador (Patricks guy) he is available but he needs water and the hotel doesn't have water outlets outside the hotel:( also Jason (JDHertz11) offered his place to wash the car, let's see what happens by tomorrow:)

Rudy,

You might try calling Forest Car Wash (972.385.1533). They are at Forest Lane and the North Dallas Tollway. They are not too far from RAC. Their website says that they wash by hand. You might call and verify exactly what they do. They are open from 8:00AM - 6:00PM on Sat. I have no idea how good they are nor their method of cleaning cars. You could always bring your own supplies and buckets and find a wand style car wash for a DIY. Just throwing out options. I am in Plano and you are welcome to use my house. I will be out but you can still use my water.

Opo 01-09-2014 03:34 PM

Craig, I got a call from Hans and he has it covered:D
Thanks for the offer my friend :biggulp:

Mine has a prior engagement, but I wouldn't have brought her anyway. Her eyes glaze over rather quickly when talk turns to cars. I'm sure you could bring yours if she doesn't suffer from the same malady.

So I’m at approximately 30,000 ft making my way home from the edge of the polar vortex. I’m bored out of my mind so here are some 993 fun facts about this Saturday’s gathering.

I think we’ll have 31 993s making about 7604hp all in one place – has to be a record of some sort. Here’s the breakdown:
1 C2 Targa
1 C2 Cab
17 C2 Coupes
4 C2S Coupes
3 C4S Coupes
3 Turbos
2 Turbo Rs

Colors:
13 Black
1 Vesuvius
3 Guards Red
4 Midnight Blue
1 Arctic Silver
2 Signal Yellow
5 Grand Prix White
1 Metallic Black
1 Aventurine Green
2 Polar Silver
1 Slate Grey

CorrdoBrit 01-09-2014 06:25 PM

Forest does an OK job (theyre my go to place). They do indeed wash by hand, but often miss a fair amount of spots/bugs/etc. And they charge $30 if your car is too low to go through their auto rinse/ blow dryer. My 964 is.

Bottom line imo is, if you are at all anal about your finish, I wouldn't recommend them.

Mine will be there. She is as much a fan of 993s as I am, and she has actually helped as a mechanic's assistant when I was working under the car.

One thing leads to another...

Got to RAC's website to get directions for tomorrow and started browsing their inventory...

There is this superb 98 Ferrari 550 Maranello w/ only 28k miles listed at $68k (sold). A 993 WB with similar mileage would command a similar price, if not into the $70's.

http://inventory.racperformance.com/...Texas/1461257/

I marvel at how a Porsche is now selling at Ferrari prices.

Whew, glad we got in before this madness.

since moving to dallas, i haven't really had the time to connect with too many 'car people' yet - a 3 y/o old daughter, a new job, a new house, etc. have kept us very busy. it was great to plug back in to the car community again and today's event was just amazing - what a phenomenal turnout!!

thanks to Brian for coordinating with Darin @ Fister and RAC and really getting behind making this happen. having spent time running many, many events for the BMW CCA on the east coast, i initially contacted Darin to see if we could get him involved firsthand with our event. when we made contact, Darin told me Brian had already had the same thought and things were in the works. it's always great to work with people who get behind a plan and make it happen.

the raffle today was a great success and we need to thank Darin and Bill for offering such great items for the event. having vendors get involved with events like ours today speaks volumes to their commitment to the community. both gentleman are absolutely first-class.

i'm looking forward to the next event already...

have to give a shout out to rudy (Opo) for bringing not 1, not 2, not 3, but FOUR 993s with him last night to have on hand today. this dude is a serious p-car nut and it was great to finally meet him.

i forgot my dig camera today, so i'm left with only iphone photos. i'd love to see, as many others have mentioned, a place to view and download pics from today's event at some point.

@geowar - after hearing several options today, i plan to pair a set of Fister IIIs with the sport cats i have laying in the garage. i was lucky enough to win one of the Fister $50 certificates today, so i told Darin i would be using that certificate in short order.

so... what are we doing next?? :roflmao:

I know. It's my fault I blew it big time. I wasn't keeping track of the date. I check the forum daily, but not in depth like I used to when we had a 993. Rob and I will 'live' the event through the pictures. I still can't believe we missed it. I'll have to let Rob spank me...... Next time I'll put a sticky note on my computer so that when it happens and we are not tied up with something else we got to do, we'll be there.

To all who put this together, I wan't to say a big THANK YOU. It was even better than I expected, and I had high expectations.

And thank you to all who showed up. It was fun to meet such a great group of people.

The Fister sound off was fun too. Only problem was that I woke up at 3 am thinking about how I "need" some Fister 3s. They sound good on youtube, but sound incredible in person. I stayed up until 5 am thinking of ways to convince the wife that it was a necessary addition. I think there may be something wrong with me.

Thank you for the video. I have never heard my car from the outside while driving or doing a burnout. Believe it or not the noise level isn't bad at all unless you are driving hard. Fister did a great job keeping the drone away.

Judging by this video, it's almost time for a new clutch ... A bit of a lag after the shift. Perfect for a lwf upgrade.

SonnyT 01-13-2014 03:24 AM

It was a great meetup, and fun to meet so many 993 fans. Special thanks to Brian, Scott (coffeman), Darin, Opo (he hauled 4 cars just for this event!!).

During lunch a few of us discussed doing a group drive and I'm certainly up for it. The discussion was a weekend drive around the Eureka Springs area in Ark and 'meena (Tallimena) - some absolutely fantastic roads.

Apart from this, I've done a lot of rides in the local area with a group of fellow motorcycle riders that started on the north side of Dallas and wound through various curvy country roads through small towns like Leonard, Ana, Selena, Pilot Point, Muenster, etc. This was a decade ago, before I switched to roadracing motorcycles, but I can dig up those routes and plan a brunch route if anybody is interested. It would be a half-day drive.

There's enough group pics, so here's some others I took. If anybody has privacy concerns with their number plate or face, just let me know and I'll take it down.

In case you were not aware RAC was the RUF US representative before Michigan. I know they did the RUF conversion on KMY's(?) red 993 from California. A lot of us DFW "oldtimers" will still occasionally refer to RAC as RUF. :D

after 19 years, simply tell her they are rattling, indicating the internal baffles have let go and there's the potential for debris to come out of the exhaust and damage a car behind you in traffic - leading, of course, to a lawsuit. that should take care of it.

bbs993tt 01-14-2014 12:12 AM

Guys,

Thanks for all the kind words and I'm glad everyone considered it a success. I'd be glad to help out with any future meetings. Like I said earlier, there WILL be other gatherings. If for no other reason to make sure Will can attend one. Not sure when or what format, but it will happen so stay tuned to this forum for future announcements.

For those of you waiting for "significant other" approval for Fisters - just do it and ask for forgiveness later! If you don't, it's an immediate loss of man-points. Once y'all get them installed, the rest of us will need to give them a sound check, so that will be the basis for our next gathering!

In case you were not aware RAC was the RUF US representative before Michigan. I know they did the RUF conversion on KMY's(?) red 993 from California. A lot of us DFW "oldtimers" will still occasionally refer to RAC as RUF. :D

Yes, I am aware.
I was corrected when I spoke with Ruf in Germany, so I wanted to pass the correction along :)

What an epic event --- and a perfect day! I had no idea that there were that many 993s concentrated in the Dallas area ... some really amazing cars!

It was like stepping back into the 1990s again.

My problem is that I thought I was done with the slippery slope but now I have a whole new list of things I want to do to my baby.

Thanks to all for a great day!

Bill

We must make this an annual (or semi-annual) event so I can stop crying about missing this one.

Fortunately my sister took some photos so I could enjoy it from afar. I posted a few of them here: http://twofourthsfull.blogspot.com/2...uary-2014.html

Fantastic fun! It was a pleasure meeting others in the 993 family.

One pic from the backside... love those hips

Gorgeous yellow 993, techsis, from the guy in the white BMW "harrassing" you on the Tollway on your way home. I was on my way to check out the Porsche gathering but found out about it too late.

Hey guys, sorry I am team slow when it comes to converting photos on my camera to photos on the Internet. I hadn't used my fancy camera in years.

LOL, thanks for the compliment... It was an epic event. Hopefully you can make the 'next' event.

Picked up my car from RAC after the installation of the Fister D III's on my car, what a sound transformation! The exhaust note is much deeper than the stock mufflers and really comes alive around the 4500 RPM mark. After speaking with Darin I decided on the black cermachrome color, they look great. Thanks to all that participated in the raffle and a special shout out to Hans & Seth at RAC and Darin at Fister D!

Picked up the car during a little snow dust up here in D and shot this photo when I got my car home.

Going to be almost 70 here today, will be out for some aural fun in the 993 later today!

Great choice on the IIIs John. Can't wait to hear them!

Good Grief!

How on Earth did I miss this get together? I drop by RAC every time we visit my inlaws in Dallas. Always an interesting place. My wife gets nervous when I wander over there alone though. Seems I have bought 2 cars from them.

Please do it again! Dallas is a brief jaunt from Weston Lakes.

Max
