Stated value Insurance for 993
The thread on Excellence values for 993's has got me seriously thinking about getting stated value insurance for my very low mile 993. Names of insurers that provide stated value and any comments about experience with those insurance providers would be appreciated.
Only name I know of, but have not had any experience with, is Hagerty.
Thanks.

I have not personally insured a car with any of the stated value insurers (2 car household), but Leland West also has a similar program and offers discounts to PCA members: pca.lelandwest.com

I recently went with Grundy because they are, more or less, my only choice in D.C. They've been good so far, easy to deal with underwriting-wise. No claims yet ... hopefully ever. I feel better with a $0 deductible, agreed-value policy than with my old Progressive policy. Nothing against Progressive, but I prefer insurers that market to the collector/enthusiast set.
Edit: I forgot about the stated/agreed distinction. I have an agreed policy. Stated value seems like a bad idea unless the carrier is grossly over-valuing your vehicle and jacking up your premium based on that valuation, which seems like an unlikely scenario.

I believe a lot of companies will write a "stated" value policy. Check your current provider. Now, if you are thinking about "agreed" value, those are usually written by the ins companies specializing in classic/collectable ins. Google for a list of choices.

You want an "agreed" value policy. Stated is not the same although I can't remember what the difference is (other than it works out better for the insurance company and not you).

Thanks on pointing out the correct term of art: "agreed". My bad...
My current insurer will do "stated" but as they even said to me, it doesn't really mean much.

I have stated (really agreed) with Hagerty on both the '88 Cab and the '96 C4. I went with Hagerty+ which includes a quarterly magazine and 10 miles of free flatbed service among other things.
Premium is based on value and agreed annual mileage limits.

I'm with Leland West for both P-Cars - I was able to cut insurance premiums in half (ALFA before) with agreed values for both cars. Flip side of the medal is mile restrictions (3K, 7K), no trips to do shopping, no commute to work - pleasure drives only. Since I hardly take the cars out this type of insurance suits me fine. Agreed value on the 993 is 40K. Hope this helps. BTW - your driving record must be fine - no tickets the past 3 years!
To repeat what has already been posted.
Agreed=if total loss is incurred you get the agreed amount.
Stated=a long fight and ultimate disappointment that you didn't have an agreed policy.
With the recent increase in "S" values I took my 32K original and unmolested widebody up today from a $55K stated to a $62K stated. Cost me an extra whopping $64.26 until my annual renewal in Jan. 2014

Hey Listers,
I also have "agreed value" insurance on my C2S at $ 71,000, but it limits your driving as a collector car, limit is 5K kilometers and can only be driven to events, picnics and the like, planning a road trip this year.
Jut b careful to read the fine print is all I'm saying here!

Join PCA then go through Leland-West. The insurance company, for me at least, is American Modern Home out of Cincinnati. Like others, never had to use them. I pay $593/yr for a 95C4Cab (agreed value - $25k) and a 96C2Cab (agreed value - $27500). Occassional driving to work - ok; park in locked garage when home; 3000 miles/yr and there may be a couple of other things you agree to. You get flatbed towing (they send you a sperate card for towing) and trip interuption coverage (this is newer). Real easy to work with. When I called for a quote on a 2008 CLK550 ragtop it was $540/yr for comparisons sake (yeah, I am thinking about trading in the 96 - back problems).
