Introduction - New NB Aventurine 993 owner & and tire fitment question
 

Hello everyone ---

Introductions first in order --- I am the (very excited) new owner of a 1996 narrow body Carrera 2! I've been looking off and on for the past couple years for a NB, and finally pulled the trigger on a nicely kept (but not imperfect) 48K mile example when I finally found one for the right price / right distance from home / right color!

I have a newbie question about tire fitments --- the car has brand new replica 18" hollow spoke wheels and nearly new Michelin Super Sport 205/40/18 and 255/35/18 tires on it.

Reading through Porsche literature, I am to understand that the recommended tire fitment for the front is 225/40/18 (not 205 width tires).

I am unable to locate documentation regarding the brand/model of wheel currently on the car ... so I am wondering if anyone has ever run into this odd fitment before? The previous owner doesn't know why the 205s are on the car (he says that an internet forum advised him to do so ... but honestly he is to busy to be super detail oriented on the car and hence the car's sale to me).

I have attached pictures of the car as well as the odd looking front tire fitment to the car. It seems to be a shame to replace nearly new Super Sport 205/40/18 with 225/40/18 ..... any thoughts appreciated.

The car is on 205's as the rims are from a 996 C4S or a Turbo 996. Maybe the offset is to narrow to run 225s... However, as I type this, 225s should not be a prob if you are running that rim width. I can't think that 20mm will make a diff.

I believe the only company that makes these replicas is Hartmann.

Somebody either cheaped out or just didn't know, you can see how stretched the 205/40 is. Oe front fitment would be 8x18 ET52 which is my best guess as to what is on there now.

Your options are to leave them til they wear out, or replace w/ 225/40s. Only down side of leaving them is a little more understeer

no markings whatsoever on them, part number, offset, width...etc.

and as was mentioned earlier, more pics please. Car looks beautiful. Congratulations

CONGRATS and welcome to the family.

Pull the wheels off the car and get the exact wheel specs especially offsets.

On the fronts make sure they are 18x8 et 52 and change to the 225.

On the rear to my eye they appear to be the wrong offsets for a 993NB. If I had to take a stab I would guess the rear offsets to be 47mm vs. the 65mm a 18x10 rear wheel should be for a NB.

Those replica wheels are INSANELY heavy so longterm I would budget for either OE wheels or high quality aftermarket forged wheels. If they are the wrong offsets that might force the issue.

Nice ride, wouldn't really bother me that much. Just go drive the heck out of it so you have an excuse to buy new rubber sooner!

Personally I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 225x18, your current tires are over stretched on those rims and they will adversely affect handling and steering.

also...if the tire's are that new, they certainly have value. Get the 225's, get em mounted up...and list these for sale here. Find someone with a UPS account to help with shipping-strap em both together.

Also, if those are Hartmanns, get them off quickly. I had replica wheels from them on my Audi and they are absolute crap...bent a bunch of them.

Love it but there is no way they are hollow spoke. I did exhaustive research years ago after someone else claimed they had a set.
