Loved the Pano article. Don't know if I could handle your commute (I'm 6 miles from work), but it is a great reason to drive the 993. Do you always take I95 or have you tried back roads?
I live about 2 miles from where you get the car serviced (was Holbert's, now Thompson owned). Do you recommend them? I haven't decided on a place to work on my '96 C4 Cab yet, but it seems most say to stay away from the dealers.

Loved the article Richard.
I can imagine after a long shift in a hospital ER - the long 993 commute clears your mind and renews your senses.
Best wishes & safe travels

How many days ever does the car sit undriven? Like, 2 days a week at best?

What kind of motor oil and viscosity have you used Richard?

Simply awesome. Great info.
I've been looking at a local 964 C2 manual coupe with nearly 220,000 miles. They just increased their price from 26k to 30k CDN so clearly mileage is becoming a minor factor in the air cooled 911 market.
This thread is proof that with proper maintenance these cars can be enjoyed for many miles.

Love stories like this ...mega thanks for posting!!!
Makes me oh-so-glad I decided to DD mine since 01! And now at a comparatively measly 146k, I feel like I am being rewarded every time I go to/from work! Tomorrow is a day off and I'm going to drive an hour down to see my folks ...no doubt which car I'll be in

Great mileage story - I think the secret sauce here is that Richard primarily drives long sustained trips on the highway - which is the lowest wear/mile combination possible. I noticed you mentioned having been caught on the highway in stop and go, but from a percentage of the total hours/miles burned in the car, I bet it's very low. For a lot of others, the story is opposite - short duration trips in a city or start/stop situations for the majority of a cars life, which is worse case.
I am sure at that mileage there a lot of components that are really worn out or have been replaced. Just off the top of my head, shocks/rubber bushings/ball joints/wheel bearings/HVAC systems, never mind wear surfaces like seats and carpets. Again, if the mileage is being racked at highway speeds, then a lot of these components get a whole lot less stressed than in the city, or if the car is tracked.
It would be very interesting to take your engine apart and check out the wear characteristics -> again, with your driving style and characteristics, its almost perfect from a longevity point of view.
It will also be interesting to see how the Boxster will do - you going to keep commuting that sort of miles for the next 15 years or so?
Cheers,
Mike

Unfortunately, no. The story of Richardew 300,000+ 993 ended in October 2017 when he died in traffic accident while driving his Boxster. Sad stuff.
