Default OT - Installed new flooring in the kids room....

I've been going back & forth on what to do with the floor in the garage - original plan was to epoxy coat it, though I've seen too many applications that have failed & looked scruffy after just a short time. I started doing a lot of research on interlocking floor tiles & found this product called Mylec Deckmat. I liked it because it is comprised of 3"x12" sections, enabling it to be easily disconnected in large sections, rolled up & moved whenever you need to clean the floor underneath - not something you can do with the typical 1sf tiles.

I installed it last weekend over the entire garage floor (820sf) - it was extremely simple & I love the result. Thought I'd post in case anyone else is looking into a similar project.

I've been wanting to do something like this as well. I'm not aware of this flooring, but I like it. If your comfortable, can you post the approx costs or PM me?

Wow, looks great Nick, congratulations. I just checked out their website, looks like a great product, especially in a climate that gets snow and ice. Enjoy

Thanks!

The cost works out to around $3.50psf including the edging pieces.

Quad - as mentioned above, it's extremely easy to un-snap whatever section is necessary to clean the floor underneath. The tiles are polyethylene & clean up easily also. I've already dropped a small screw between the tiles & just used a magnet to grab it.

Paul - correct... In the dark months the nasty slushy stuff will just drain through the holes & run out. Power wash in the spring & it will look like new.

Hey Darin - shhhhhhhhh... It's still in your neck of the woods & it's no longer red

In all seriousness, will the tiles handle floorjacks or the edges of jackstands?

"kids room"
My wife didn't laugh when I referred to my 993 as my "First born".

This is my concern. I need a floor that can handle jackstands and some abuse.

Hmm, looks great, like the textured look!

My shop sometimes doubles as a woodworking studio (with a complete Unisaw, bandsaw, planer, etc), and then a metal working studio (with cutoff saws, TIG welder, plasma torch, etc).

I assume there are gaps between the tiles, so if sawdust for instance is generated, it gets underneath the flooring? How well does the plastic take hot metal or grinding sparks?

Would love the look, but I suspect I would destroy the floor in no time..

Cheers,

Mike
