AC belt a little short?
 
Anyone else have a tough time getting the 13 X 1085 AC belt on the pulley? With the compressor all the way toward the fan it will not go on without unbolting the compressor.

Just looked it up in the PET. Porsche part is 12.5X1085. The belt I have is 13X1085 from Pelican.

yeah, its a pain in the balls. You'll need to unbolt the compressor. Bolting it back on is a pain.

The new ones are a bit wider, and sit higher in the grove, hence they are harder to put back on.

be mindful of the square nuts and you'l need a screwdriverish item to lever it all back in place. Pcar site has a sequence for re mounting which worked for me.

Is it possible to get a 13.5 X 1085 so you don't have to through all the hassle?

That will not help you as 13mm is the width and a thicker belt with be even tighter. With a Contitech 13 x 1100 you will still have to pull the bolts but you will not have a belt that is to tight and stuff the a/c bearings and it’s self prematurely.

I tried NAPA local to get something close, but no go. Has anyone bought the belt from Porsche and found it 12.5 X 1085 as it shows in the PET, or have they just gone to the 999.192.363.50 part # ?? I got it on (not the first time I've done this) but find it a pain in the a**. Reminder to put a razor knife in the tool kit to cut the damn thing if you throw a fan or alt belt on the road.

Awhile back I wrote some notes on changing the v-belts that might help.

Below is the part about the A/C belt that might help.

10. Mounting the A/C Belt and Compressor

This is probably the hardest part of the job, until you figure out the tricks, then it's not so bad.

Use the long flat-blade screwdriver to push the belt down below the crankshaft pulley past
the nuts that stick out.

Back out the adjuster bolt and lock nut on the A/C unit.

With all bolts removed, lift off the A/C unit and fit the belt around the pulley.
Not pivot the A/C unit up onto the base and drop in the long bolt shown in the picture as number 1.
Thread the square nut on but just get it started, don't tighten yet.

Now, with the large flat-blade screwdriver, pry the A/C unit forward as shown in the picture
until you can drop in the long bolt in position number 2. Thread the square nut on and tighten just a little.

Now evenly tighten bolts 1 and 2 to bring the A/C unit down onto the base until you can drop in the
long bolt in position number 3. There must not be any binding on the bolt or you won't be able to
get the square nut started threading. Once you can get the square nut on, tighten all 3 long bolts down
until you can get the short bolt started in position 4. Tighten it down but not all the way yet.

Now, check the tension in the belt and adjust it using the adjuster bolt and then tighten the lock nut.
From the full open position, I added about 1/2 turn to the adjuster bolt.

Tighten down all 4 bolts and recheck the tension in the belt. Recheck the adjuster and lock nut tightness.

I just replaced all 3 belts last weekend so this all still fresh in my mind.
Note that when you put the belt on the first time it may be so tight that you
get a very high tension gauge reading but don't worry it will stretch out.
That is why I put about 1/2 turn of tension on the adjuster nut even though
the guage is saying it doesn't need it.

Then drive several miles and get the engine hot. I drove about 20 miles and
let the car sit overnight.

Then in the morning, check the tension. It will be low. You want to adjust it
to 30 Kg. Then you are set. It will be perfect. I just rechecked mine this
morning after a full week of driving and it is right where I set it.

I highly recommend the Stahlwille 13mm deep offset box-end wrench for
adjusting the lock nut on the compressor.
