Default Sunset price..OUCH

I find that I need to buy a right headlamp for my 95 NB Cab as I can't adjust the lamp height.

I sent a quick note off to Sunset asking for a price on 993-631-052-00-M422 and got a quote back of 923.74. The same part on Pelican is 424.25. The Sunset price seems silly high. I've asked Sunset to recheck, but suspect that's the price.

Have I made a mistake on what I need? Is there any reason to buy from Sunset...(chokes)

I had quite a bit of trouble adjusting one of mine after the HID install...don't remember which one. I too thought the adjusters were broken/stripped, etc. It's all about the angle you insert the allen. Once I found the sweet spot-one was much harder to find than the other...it adjusted fine.

Take a couple of deep breath's, and give it another try. Make sure your watching the bubbles closley...or better yet, have your car set up and aiming at a wall with horizontal markings for adjustment.

It's pretty finniky(sp)...and don't forget to have some gas in the tank, but not full.

I assume that one could be Porsche OEM and the other one would be Hella. The difference might be in markings only.

in either events, you're much better off with a used part in this case.

Ben, thanks....stupid of me, I'd not thought to check Ebay.

Megdaddy....its in the shop right now having "flying speaker" induced fender dent repaired. I'll give a another try when I get it back tomorrow. The plastic rod appears to turn inside the housing, but the damn light doesn't adjust.

Mike....I'd no idea that Hella parts were sold...I figured if the sticker said OEM, it was Porsche OEM. My education continues, thanks.

For what it's worth, I broke my adjustment screws on my OEM headlight when I went the HID route. I've learned how to minimize this problem in the future. But I ended up purchasing the headlight assembly from Pelican. Seems identical to the OEM version sold thru Sunset as I could not determine any difference. The price was much cheaper than going with Sunset, like you said, and it's a perfect replacement.

I would NOT purchase used if you don't mind spending a little extra for the new ones from Pelican. The plastic gears on these cars are now more than 15 years old and tend to become brittle. So you'll still at a risk of ruining those gears as well.

Hope my 2 cents helps.

Could be Hella, Could be Bosch. Many Porsche parts are available in non-Porsche marking from the same manufacturers. Some seem identical, some are argued not to be (Zimmerman rotors are a good example). But there's almost always an alternative and always a corresponding Rennlist discussion on whether it's OK to use it.

BTW, on Pelican: http://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Inf...)%2C%20Each%20 it says "Brand: Automotive Lighting" on the left. Which tell me it wouldn't come in Porsche box, just as described above.

Pelican headlight mfg is; Automotive Lighting, who are stated as an OEM supplier to Porsche
Intresting how the left is $413.75, and the right is $424.25. Somehow there is a $10.50 difference?

I've seen the same from Pelican, when their supply of a part is low and possibly the part is NLA (no longer available). For example, the factory maintenance manual is now $924.50 and was $395 about a year ago.

There was a discussion about a year ago on the headlight assemblies (or was that lenses) becoming preciou$ because they were NLA...

Don't know who you spoke with at Sunset but $923.74 is the list price. Our price should be $663.94, which is still pretty high.

Not for people in Oregon. 15%+ pricing is for out of state sales only. Not a widely known fact, but...

The headlights were made by Bosch but Bosch stopped making automotive lighting about 3 years ago. AL are the new suppliers to Porsche for everything that was Bosch and they feel they can make money on. Lots of older Bosch stuff is awaiting AL to manufacture it, like all impact bumper spots and fogs.

Default At issue; Vendor pricing

+1 agree
That pricing difference btw the sources Sunset and Pelican could easily be "distribution" and yeah the same part only packaged in a Porsche carton can be expensive.

Edit: With the Bosch manufacture discontinuation and the new AL vendor for lighting items could be spotty.
