Recommended modifications for 993's
#46
I just looked at mine and I can see that wad of blades in front of the drivers window. The mod sounds like a great idea, however, the original design was meant to wipe rain/sleet/snow away from the drivers view with the new mod configuration it wipes to the left which means rain water, sleet or snow will be brought to the drivers side. Not that I'm ever going to drive my 993 in rain, sleet or snow, just my observation.
I'd checkout the Wevo mounts instead of the RS. very simple design, cheaper, and you can switch out the bushing for more/less reponse. I have the Blue ones.
Golden-ROD... This should be first for everyone.. Simple, and makes a HUGE difference in these old cars. I did the SSK as well, awsome... FDMoto are the best. Thanks Darin..

Craig, Marco, thanks!
I have Walrod control arm bushings and HD/M030 so there's plenty of feel, but am debating whether to do pinning, especially given the fact that I have one of the pinning kits now.

Add an automatic door lock module;
Add a headlight left on chime module;
Add a keyway illumination led to the dash - powered by dome light;
Upgrade to after-market low-beam HID headlights;
Add tail stop light to open bulb mounting holes in USA center reflector, makes the car vastly more visible at night;
Replace the switchblade key fob with a color coordinated 944 style fob - an eBay item.

- Conversion of switch blade remote (if equipped with immobilizer)
- Paint fog light housing to get rid of yellowing (if keeping the fog lights
- Get rid of bumperettes, if repainting the bumper (i.e. filling the cutouts)

You are 100% correct with your theory. The rain does track back over the screen when the wipers are flipped, I wouldnt flip if the car was a daily and used in the rain, it may drive you mad! As mentioned, remove the intermittent relay and re-adjust the arms first to see if you like it

It's call a 993 twin turbo...993 twin turbo S, if you must...

Much better view with them over on the passenger side but if driving in the rain they do not work as well as when parked on the drivers side. Porsche did know what they were doing, results won over looks on this.

I also have the wipers "flipped", I am trying to figure out how there could be any loss, perfomance wise, because once on the move they make the same cycle? Or am I missing something here?

I thought they were on the drivers' side so you can see the passenger corner better since it's further away.

While the steering was pretty solid before, there was a subtle improvement after the pinning. Not a huge night and day difference, but, definitely better. For the cost, it is definitely a good value mod. IMHO.

I doubt if you will get “THE" list since it depends a lot of personal choice, etc. However, I broke down 911Pervy’s list into categories, added some items, and sorted around what I think the actual depth of impact would be. Yes I know they are not "10" items long, but hey a guy needs choices...
Interesting is that most of these discussion do not get into the engine itself unless someone is really focused on power, where we get into rebuilts, cams, intake systems, supercharging, 3.8kits, etc. These modifications are a much smaller group of 993 owners.
Performance, handling and longevity Increases
Cosmetic and comfort items (no real performance increases)
Lightening the car to go faster (with corresponding depreciation of the car) - some harder to reverse than others

MikeJ: great list, I added my comments and opinions.
