Strut Top Mount Stud Busted
Does anyone know where I can purchase the studs for the strut top mounts? Every parts catalog shows them as part of the mount.

Seems to me that a properly sized carriage bolt would be a suitable replacement seeing that the bolt goes through sheet metal & a rubber gasket and uses a prevailing torque nut (locknut) because in the application it is not torqued enough to even be put in a clamp loading position high enough to keep the nut on otherwise.

When I did my shocks & springs at Easter I discovered that one of the top mount studs had been replaced with a bolt. Seems like a legit repair and the only other option is to replace the entire top mount. And as pp000830 pointed out, there's 24 ft/lb on it which ain't much torque at all.

I was the one asking and I went for a bolt. Installing the replacement stud would have required removing the strut, which would have required a new alignment.
It probably takes two people - one for each end of the bolt, although you might be able to reach around.

How about finding a used strut top and reusing a stud from that? That will keep all the hardware correct.
You might be able to replace the strut top in the car without disturbing the alignment enough to notice. Put a spring compressor on the spring, support the strut with a jack and remove the strut top while the strut body stays in the wheel well.
