CEL: SAI Blues
I got dem ol' SAI blues (Sung to the tune of "44 Blues" -
).
Confirmed by the scanner at my local Auto Zone. At 86,335 miles, and using/leaking a quart of oil every 900-1000 miles, I knew it was coming sooner than later.
I live in a no emissions test area (Hell, they don't even test brake lights up here) so I'm not going to spend any money on it right now. I plan to keep the car until I can't drive, then park it in my garage so I can sit in it, drink Scotch, smoke weed and make motor noises while working the pedals and gear shift. If I need a top end job before then, I'll fix the SAI at the same time.
That said, I need to kill this damn warning light (No, I don't want to put black tape on the gauge face). Do I have to remove the gauge, or can I reach up behind the dash to pull the lightcket so and remove the bulb?
Thanks for any info....

Hey Terry,
Just get a small ODBII scanner at Autozone for $60 and you can clear the CEL every time it comes up. It shouldn't come back until all of the driving cycles flags are set which could take a few hundred miles. Since you don't get test for emissions, who cares if the ODBII flags are cleared and never set.
P.S. save me a spot in your garage when the party begins. I like your plan.

Just pull out the bloody clock and remove the bulb (did that for check-engine; airbag + wing; works perfect); save the money for the OBD (most possible I) for more party supply.
I would join in too

further, OBD codes regularly have little to do with how the engine runs. If you have a bad carbon cannister, the car would likely run fine. Probably wouldn't notice a lean/rich, vac leak, etc unless it was fairly major.

Terry,
As you probably know, I have my car registered at my parents' address, rather than my place in Atlanta, for the very same reason. The solution is simple - just do what Sergio suggested. Mine comes on probably once every six weeks. I've put about 15k miles on mine since taking ownership in Feb. '12, and I've cleared about 15 CELs. Unplugging the bulb is unwise imo, since it will still alert you to other problems, although mine has never come on for anything other than P0410.
