I must admit that a full cage feels a bit "over the top" for my use, with about 60% track and 40% street...but of course; if it's all about safety you're quite right - a full cage would definately provide the best protection.

As usual, there a best and second best options ...

1. full cage - definitely for racing / not practical for road use
2. roll-bar - should be good for track days + road
3. none - still ok on the road ...

main difference between race and track day is that there should be no chance of contact, which accelerates the chance of flipping

therefore, the commonly selected second best choice (roll-bar) should be more than sufficient ...
IMHO (with the 2 cent value)

Considering a similar set up.
For those who have already installed the Heigo roll bar, can you outline what is involved in installation? I see its referred to as bolt-in but are there welding for mounting points needed to install. Any other things to prepare for?
thanks

Looking at the pictures, it appears to me that the roll bars bolt in with 4 bolts using the lateral front and rear lap belt mounting bolts.

I wonder how many rule books allow only that.

Also it seems to me that a bar designed for the RS carpet set could easily have an aft going brace go to the rear shoulder belt bolts rather than just lap belt bolts for a total of 6 bolts.

8 points. B pillar lower and upper OEM seat belt bolts (2 each side = 4). Rear seat-belt receptical and mounting points 2 each side = 4). All mounting points are factory seat belt points so very secure...

None that I know of in the US. Then again, most DEs over here are self-tech, and 75% of the time I opt for factory belts when riding in a car that's had additional "safety" equipment installed. When the factory three-point has been altered, I'll decline unless we're in the lowest of the low beginner groups.

I think its 6 points only... B pillar lower OEM seat belt bolt only ...

I wish they would have one more bar to the upper rear seat belt point, but ....

At least, heigo bars are some of the few which are (technical) approved by German TUV, for legal necessary registration for street use (in Germany).

Default Update

Hi,

The last post from Holger3.2 reminded me about updating this thread (sorry about that). I ordered the Heigo roll-cage via my local Porsche-dealer, thought that would be a good idea in case of delivery problems etc. (just let the guys at the Porsche center deal with it). They warned me about the delivery time and estimated 1-2 months. About 6 weeks after my order the roll-cage was ready for pick-up at the Porsche center, and a couple of weeks ago I installed it in my 993. The install was a bit more tricky than I thought it would be, but no actual problems really...just needed a dose of elbow grease since I was doing this all alone (think it would have been easier with a helping hand). Will post some photos later.
