Rennline Frunk Struts
Looking at a car that just had these installed. Anyone have a positve experience with them recently? Read some of the threads here where people were complaining about them not fitting. TIA!

Thanks. This fellow had them installed, but i just read the invoice and they had to adjust the hood latch afterward because it was not closing properly. I've never heard of anyone having to adjust their hood latch after replacing struts???

Nope, just read the service records. This was a car that I made an offer on in December after another Rennlister took a look at it. The broker middleman screwed up the deal and I moved on. Owner contacts me yesterday and apologizes for the broker and asks if I would like to try again since he fired the broker. Says he just had $3,500 worth of work done to the car and sends the invoice. I prefer OE parts on an 29,000 mile car, but would be OK with the Rennline parts if they fit well - based on posts here, they do not. Hence, why would you have to spend 1.5 hours "adjusting the hood latch" because it would not close with the Rennline struts. I don't even know HOW you could spend 1.5 hours adjusting a hood latch.
Total cost of the 4 struts and installation...$1,476.25!!!

I had a set installed in front along with rear when there was an engine drop.
No issues noted, nothing needed to be adjusted.
Excellent alteration - no more getting hit in the back of the head with either frunk or engine lid.

Thanks guys. I spoke with the owner last night and he said the frunk was getting difficult to close before the swap. He had tried adjusting the little rubber stops, but that didn’t help. He said it is closing ‘beautifully’ now. I’m having it inspected by a Rennlist friend so he will check everything out for me.

Hi Onami,
I use the $15 variety purchased from eBay. Replaced them once years ago and they are still going strong. Rennline & Porshe doesn't make them anyway they just brand them and put them in a box. I see no point in paying a premium for a logo on the cylinder case. Once installed the branding becomes irrelevant anyway. I have never seen a buyer of one of our cars complain that the hood struts are not original enough when considering a car for purchase.

Thanks. I'm not worried about them not being original. I had never heard of "mechanical" struts, so I looked them up. Saw people complain about fit and saw the invoice charge for adjusting the hood latch and assumed this was because they did not fit. Owner says that the issue existed before the Rennline struts, so all is good. Still, my preference would have been to install gas struts like the originals, but no big deal (other than the crazy price he was charged!).
