Default Convertible top issue (already searched)

Hello everyone,

I am having an issue I cant find using the search function with my 95 c2c. The driver side latch is working fine, but recently my passenger side latch locks in place, but doesn't unlock. To unlock it I have to put a flat head screw drive on the wheel that can be seen under the visor and press up against it. It wont unlatch manually. The motor seems to spin in place without it actually unlocking. I lowered the top and had someone hold both sensors and miraculously both latches lock and unlock (in the top down position.) Does anyone have experience on what this could be? Whats interesting is that it unlatches if I press up against the little metal wheel.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Best,
gabe.

I really do not know. However, there was a recall for the latches. Maybe call a dealer and have them check your vin number to see if it has been done. Sorry.

Unfortunately, the Recall was already done

it reads like you have already solved it. if the latch works when someone is holding the sensor but not when in place and closed, the sensor must not be working in the closed position.
try adjusting the sensor.

Take the latch out and open up the motor. I'd bet the gear is cracked but regardless the motors are simple and only so much can go wrong.

I re read and saw that. I did adjust the sensor and its giving me the same issue. The motor spins freely and doesnt unlock, but locks perfectly. Itll only unlock if i press up against the little wheel on the actual latch. Otherwise, it just spins.

Im going to try to open up the motor today and hopefully its just a stripped gear I can flip 180 degrees over.

You can get new gear here. It's a fun job -- I've done it several times....

thanks guys! i used that DIY to rotate the gear and it works perfectly. the only issue i have now is that i didnt push the pin in all the way so i have to press the button a few times to completely unlatch it. I guess im going to have to do it all over again today.
