Update... confirmed with @drb and @shadow993 they no longer have the jig. @shadow993 sent the jig to @hchc

@hchc can you confirm you still have the jig or can you let us know who you sent it on to?

Thanks!

In response to a couple of PM's received today, yes - the original jig of 2008 eventually made it back 'home'.

The pilot hole of 5/32" grew to some much larger convoluted hole a wood worm would be proud of: I dressed it up to a nominal 1/4", did a couple of local cars, and retired it to the bench.

1/4" pilot rather defeats the purpose of being a guide for a 5/16" final hole, hand drilled w/o a guide.

All the jig dimensions are in post 217 of this thread; however, to repeat, a piece of solid stock was welded to a section of 1.5" id pipe (37mm). Directly opposite this addition, a 5/32 hole is drilled through the pipe on the diameter/radial) line.

The pipe is then square cut to place the pilot 19mm (3/4") inboard from one end, and the other end cut leaving a total of 68mm pipe section (2.7").

Then split the pipe lengthwise at right angles to the pilot line .... and finish drilling the welded piece (from the inside) were the drill too short.

Viola, that is a complete saddle jig, ready to be clamped to the outer barrel of the inner tie rod, and a 5/32 pilot hole to be drilled through the inboard side of the inner rod half.

Anyway, if anyone wishes to drill a 1/4" pilot, I can again mail the original jig out. Note - I suspect that it may last a short time before requiring redressing the hole to the full 5/16"

@Garth I am going to attempt to drill the pilot and final hole with my press. It is not clear to me where exactly you are to drill the hole in relation to the inner tie rod male and female ends. Can you help clarify? Eyeballing it looks like about the middle of the inner...

Thanks!
