Default Slightly OT - IMS lawsuit

Check this out, something is going on....

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-mar-12-a.html

Interesting! I hope the 996/997 guys win out - maybe we should do one for valve guides? (that will fly like a brick..).

Cheers,

Mike

I was reading about this the other day. It's good to hear that the 996 guys might see some compensation. I think it is kind of lame that the people that bought used without a CPO will only see 25% payback though. But 25% is better than nothing.

For all that I love my 993, the 996 Turbos are coming down to very good prices now - a very quick and capable car for the money (and no IMS issue with the Turbo engine either).

I have been thinking about a 996 turbo as a DD. I'd take out the AWD though.

Ok, I did not post this as a "996-bashing" party, but to discuss the class-action lawsuit with Porsche. Having a quick scan of the legal docs, it appears that Porsche has fixed about 3100 cars previous to the claim, at a cost of $20,000,000 / 3100 claims = $6,451 per claim. The "failure" rate looks like its between 3% and %10 for the single row bearings, and less than 1% on double row.

I wonder how big a class action lawsuit for valve guides would have been? Its way too late for that, this does not appear to be an issue on any of the water cooled cars, so the the last instance would have been 15 years ago....
