Default Auto Transport: NJ to LA

Need to get a car shipped from New Jersey to Los Angeles.

What are the current, Rennlist, recommended auto transporters?
It's an exotic so I want to go enclosed.

Thanks,
B

Just got a quote, $2400... Seem reasonable?
Or should coast to coast be less than that?

Used Intercity when I bought blackie a few years ago. I think I paid about that, but they also transported two extra sets of wheels, the original steel doors and hood and many, many boxes of spares. Excellent communications along the way and the car was delivered to NY just like it left Orange County, CA.

I just got a quote from Safeway Auto Transport. $1800 enclosed.
They have their own trucks but would broker out this deal cause it's coast to coast.

He said the trucks they broker don't use terminals, no transfers, usually carry 4 cars per trip max, stays with the driver.

I'm wondering if there is really any difference? Am I getting more protection from a $2500 transport than a $1800 transport..

Though.... Some of you old time Rennlisters may remember what happened to my 993 back in 2001!

If memory serves, it was about $1,500 for the 993 from San Fran to DC - enclosed trailer - in 2009.

Have used them multiple times, prior.

Another fan of Intercity!

I don't think we would trust any "brokers" with our cars.

I used Intercity from CT to CA. 2400 seems a bit high to me. Go direct if you can.

With fuel prices what they currently are, along with winter time; I think you can safely expect increased transportation costs.

I made the mistake of "brokering" my BMW from San Antonio to Boston. Price was right but it was put on five different trucks to get here. The tool kit and jack were stolen from the trunk and no one knew which "broker" did it. I gave up trying to get restitution.

Never again.

Not apples to apples, but I just shipped a motorcycle from Boston to San Ramon for just under $1,000.

Regards,

.

InterCity is very popular and very good, but they can be busy. Other good alternatives (enclosed and reasonably price):

http://www.plyconvanlines.com/
http://www.gt-ms.com/

Both were great to deal with when getting quotes.

Intercity just quoted $1895 from the east coast to NV, so I think $2400 may be high.

I used Demoise Trucking a few times with great results, though they seem to have gone awol....???

I've also used Pilot Transport with great results and their price is best for me due to their MI depot.

At the end of the day, you really do get what you pay for - I would never use a broker again.
