Just to get an idea, I got a quote from a Porsche dealer in the Bay Area. The total cost including parts, labor, freon, etc. was around $3500. The evaporator alone was $1800, not $1000.

I have done this three times. 2 of my cars, and 1 for a friend. 993 Kuehl Serpentine Evaporator all 3 times. It is a good product with a 3 year warranty. I can't figure why you would pay more for a dealer part that is no better,in my opinion. I also sourced parts for an 88 from the same company, and was very pleased with the quality. I have no affiliation. I try and do all my work, and I try to go the most cost effective route. I don't plan on doing it a 4th time, but I know where I would get my part.

Can one remove the tank hoses instead of all the work associated to the Fuel Pump?? If i don't have to jack stand the front i can save half an hour and just be extra careful.

You have to disconnect the fuel pump from the tank. No other way to do it. Believe me, this is one of the easier steps. Make the investment in tools to lift car. I would also recommend replacing the dryer since the system is open and cleaning the condenser coil while the wheel well is out. Do not use high pressure on the coils. Just use domestic pressure no more than 80 psi and a degreaser like simple green. My condenser was filthy.

Why not first try a product to stop the leak at the source?
I have had excellent results with Enviro-Safe products
http://www.es-refrigerants.com/produ...l4/details.asp
ProSeal XL4 is designed for repairing leaks in condensors, evaporators, copper line, and solder joints.
This product is an epoxy that reacts to water and air. When coming in contact with the atmosphere, it forms a seal over the leak.
If your system stays charged for one day when running, this product will fix most leaks that you may encounter.

It would take a tube of silicone to stop the drip I have in mine, I have my doubts anything in a can will fix it.

At least that's always been my luck.
YMMV.

Before spending $3,500, try the ProSeal ...

Is there anything to substantiate this theory of more efficiency?

Is the Keuhl version and Keuhler?

Any valid reason to go Keuhl over ACM?

Sure not going back with OEM...

Before you go dumping 'sealants' in an AC system best to read on what damage they can do.
Very expensive to fix vs. the right fix.
