That guy is indeed the guy. Wants 28500 for a Tip Cab with 100k miles. Car is in beautiful mech condition and interior is pristine. That said, feels at the TOP end of what a Tip should be going for. Want something I can use as a DD. Have been looking at 996, 993 and 964. The 996 IMS/RMS issue freaks me out Plus, the more I drive around LA, the more 996 I see and that turns me off a little.

What about the $17k tip in TX, posted here somewhere?
One doesn't need to drive around LA to get turned off from 996's, if you are looking at air-cooled cars. Sounds like you need to zero in on what you want, if you need to make it a DD. Is it just a "Porsche" you want to be driving?

Totally agree that I need to zero in on what I want. Honestly, I love the old air cooled cars more than the new WC. They're just better looking and I think feel more attached to the road - also minus the engine issues I see on the 996. That said, I tried to do a 3.2 for a while and the clutch in LA stop and go traffic just didn't work. Tried out a friend's 964 for a while and, while I liked it, it kept having issues during its time with me. The 993 seems great and like a great combination of all the things in the AC Porsches of old.
I agree that the guy needs to make a living, but the 285 also has an additional 1k on top of it for the guy to "process paper work and make a little for himself." So I'm at 29500 for a car with tip and 100k miles. Plus, the guy that has owned it is a P mechanic. I love that but it also means there isn't a great service history. Obviously I need to get a PPI but I'm just trusting that he did certain things which scares me.
Saw the 17k one in Texas which seems AWESOME except that it's a Coupe and I was looking for a Cab. Love to drive around LA with the top down, especially on days like today where it is 81 degrees.
I think I'm zeroing in on a 993. Now, just have to find a tip cab with good miles. This 993 might be it, I just wish it were closer to 25k that 30 given the mileage.

Here's the one at Truspeed. It's a '97 Cab Tip. $39.9K with 47K miles.

The clutch on the 3.2 is quite a bit heavier and stiffer than the 993, you should find a friend that will let you drive one for a bit and then decide. Having said that, a tippy cab with 100K miles in perfectly maintained condition is a $20K-22K car IMHO, and demanding $1K to do the 'paperwork' is like asking you to hold the Vaseline. I'd keep looking ....

But the 993 will be lighter..not by a lot IMO. If I had to drive LA traffic daily for any time or distance, a clutch would prolly get old.

Really appreciate everyone's feedback (and the ton of PMs with car listings). Agreed that I'm probably not going to go with this Tip Cab, which is a bummer, but would rather do it right than wrong and end up underwater with a car that's hard to sell later down the line. Will just keep looking. Maybe I can wait until one of these 95's has a top end and then get it that way....
