2012 North Georgia Mountains New Year's Eve Run

Also, I know a guy (early 60's) who goes from Turner's corner over Neal's Gap to 180, over Wolfpen to Suches, over Woody Gap and back to Turner's on a bicycle in about 2 hours. Roughly 30 miles. Any takers?

Cannon, not meant to be critical, This will be a nice ride. I'm not sure I would have laid the route out here for all to see. Meaning the boys in blue who have quotas to meet....seems like shooting fish in a barrel for them. Then again, maybe I'm just paranoid. Perhaps next year, I'll join you. I am local to the area (zip 30513), but now also local to the Asheville area. Any WNC guys seeing this? BRP is in my back yard at this house.

aka 3-Gap, my best time is about 2:10, but not right now. Photo is from earlier this year on Wolfpen. The route covers most of the 6-Gap century ride. Much easier in a air-cooled flat six

Hi guys, last year was a lot of fun and I'll be in this year as well. Not sure whether it'll be just me and my wife in the Cayman, or with our new bundle in the Cayenne. If it's the latter, I'll be sure to bring up the rear. Looking forward to it!

I have only seen cops out once on those roads, coming back from Highlands in June I passed one on 356 and then saw a few more coming into Blairsville after Richard B. Russell - I was lucky. Knock on wood, no tickets for me this afternoon coming up there or on Monday...

If the past five years is any indication, we'll see very little coordinated law enforcement effort on New Years Eve. The greater danger for law enforcement becoming involved lies in someone in our group doing something to **** off a non-Rennlister and them subsequently calling the law. This has become common now that everyone is carrying a cell phone. A little patience and courtesy can go a long way. The bottom line is that each of us is responsible for his/her own behavior. You make your choices and live with the consequences.

You guys are too quick for me, just let me know where the Brew-Stop is and I'll meet you there (plus all I have to drive is the girly car)! Was up in Dahlonega yesterday, police were out in force on 400 & 9.

I'd like to avoid salt as much as possible. A few years ago we did out snow/ice run in my old GT3 for NYE and it tore the **** out of my components underneath.
Trying to keep the RS extra clean.

We made until last weekend without the cold/ice, darn it. The best bet is for us to run Neel's/Woody's Gaps and the other low lying/South facing roads. Maybe Neel's twice on the way to Helen. Further discussion tomorrow.

Chris we will making our usual stop in Helen afterwards. Shoot me your cell via pm and I'll call when we are about an hour out. I suspect near noon. It will be either of the two watering holes right on the river at the bridge.

That sounds fine. What killed it a few years ago was the fact that it was wet too so it got stuck up in the drop links etc. It'll remain dry from now until Tuesday so we should be fine as it'll be dried up... But as you suggested let's stay on the south facing mountains/roads.
Worse case is you can wash the undercarriage off afterwards.

I would like to avoid salt, as well.
