Smile Want to know ALL about tires?

??? Back in Nov. when I put up this link...it seemed like a plausible article....getting some pushback below....I just removed the citation. Don't want to lead anyone down the wrong road.

My orientation is track with a little street. For me, best tire for this with a UTQR 100 or > is the Nitto NT-01. I have never had a problem with this tire...a little slower than the <100 tires, but wear like iron.

For tire <100, Hankook Z 214. As good for me as Hoosier R6 and and Kumho 710, and cheaper too..

Tire Rack is great. My contact there is neal@tirerack.com Not a Cali co. so no sales tax, at least for the time being. Others are good as well. Discount aka America's Tire Company, very competitive too, Cali sales tax, but no shipping.....it's about the same, $80 a set more or less.

Just about to purchase new tires....lots of blank stares from the tire guys when asking even basic questions....bump for a good refresher article.

Wanted a quiet multi weather tire good for long trips....I'm considering the Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110..going on a '98 C4S....anyone else have any recommendations on some of the newer tires?

Great article - thanks. I missed it earlier.

Anyone have recommendations here on buying tires? Is Tire Rack generally the best price? Does anyone here mount and balance their own at home?

Tire Rack and Discount Tire typically has the best pricing on tires.

I have a local guy show up to my house and mount and balance in my driveway.

It's a decent general article but with many inaccuracies in numbers ('xplain to me how 4% of 195 millimeters could be 78 mm as he contends). He also makes factual errors (no, 15 in 195/60-15 is _not at all_ "the width of the rim in inches". It might be language/translation issue as I think the article was originally written in one of the Slavic languages.

What I'm saying is - read it carefully and with a grain of salt.

Some of the article may be accurate, some of it is certainly wrong. An anonymous author posting on a free website has no credibility with me. So I too may be lying.

As well intended as that article presumed to be, it is ripe with inaccuracies - so many so that it would be better to erase & start again.
Natural rubber is practically absent in passenger tires/components are never 'sewn' together/sulphur is never introduced in a curing press/ ad infinitum .... practically every paragraph has a 'gotcha'.
Too harsh perhaps; however, spent career time being responsible for eng, design groups, testing, and manufacturing of tires ... still recall a few tricks

Default Not to mislead on tires..

I deleted the citation...I didn't read it as closely as I should have.

Tire Rack has lots of great information on their site if someone wants to learn about tires.

I've been happy with TR and my Sumi's. One learning re:tires.....watch the date codes. I have bought cars with 10 year old tires that look good but perform miserably. IIRC TR recommends 6 years as the max life on a tire and they might be a bit conservative but not too far off the mark.
