959
The current thread featuring the VW/Porsche 959 chop got me thinking about the first time I saw a 959 in person. Back in 87, I was studying in Germany and a friend and I were on one of our epic Eurail misadventures around Europe. We basically slept at night on the trains and travelled to different cities so that we wouldn't have to pay for a hostel bed. This is something I would obviously never do now but it was great then. My back was young and I was dumb(er).
Anyway, we rolled through Stuttgart and decided to take a look around. We ended up at the Porsche complex(as you do) and walked around taking pictures of cars we thought we would never be able to own. When you are a History and German major, it is not like the world is your oyster.
So we stumbled upon a bunch of 959s in one of the many parking lots. I completely forgot about it until a few months ago when my friend developed the shot in his darkroom, scanned it and shared it with me.
Such cool cars.

Very cool.
I did the Eurail thing too back in the late '80's. What a great experience that was and cheap too. I remember sleeping on the steps of Venice's railway station along with 20 other equally impoverished students only to be woken up at 5am by cleaners with hose-pipes. That was our cue to get up and move on. A cat had found the end of my sleeping bag quite comfy.

I was at the Schlumpf Museum (France, largest collection of Bugatti's in the world) in June '05 and this was one of the cars on display.
The new Porsche Museum was being developed and Porsche had lent a lot of their display cars out until it was completed.
Edit: Crap, how did that photo get rotated? It's not rotated in my system.

Very, VERY cool, thanks for sharing!!!
As I drive my 993 daily these days (almost at 140k miles!!!), I am still drawn to the old school Porsche's. I really don't think I'll ever be able to sell my beloved polar silver/black 993 for a new Porsche. Something about the old school Porsche's, which the 959 naturally takes ALL the cake.

Damn that's a lot of 959s. Sounds like quite the trip. Strange seeing this post. I'd seen a 959 in the Porsche museum but today I saw one in the states. I was visiting with the parent's checking out this shop in the suburbs for windscreen rust repair and I was surprised to see a 959 along with several other sweet rides from MJ's collection in storage. Was my first time seeing a 959 in the states couldn't believe it was 3 miles from the Rents. I've seen picture of a black 959 with Illinois plates being serviced at the dealer, apparently driven regularly by a collector in the west suburbs. Thanks for sharing!
