Seems to me that you could buy a 993 RS mainshaft and then gear to suit, also add all the other motorsport goodies for the cost of a 996Cup trans that doesn't really fit well

Yeah, that's exactly what I did (taller 1st/mainshaft). With all the hassles of trying to make the 996 box fit, it probably would have come out to about the same dollar amount. Also, I don't mind paying a little extra for piece of mind that it was done right.

I have done it on my 993TT, I did use 1 997TT RS Tranny, (G5080 type), did install it with the cable shifter, and let me tell you it has a much precise feeling on every shift, once you try this you won't look back!!! Check out www.peakgarage.net in Turkey, they have made a few.,got all the ancliliaries and ideas from them.
