Is there a recommendation to let an NA car cool down as well? I'm amazed at how long my motor gives off heat even after a relatively short drive. I tend to leave the wing up to let the hot air dissipate a little easier, but I have no idea whether that makes any difference at all. Without the turbos to deal with, I'm thinking the cool down process is not nearly as important on an NA car, but I was just curious.

i do...and my turbos were still fine at 245k miles before swapping engine. idling never made sense to me cause car runs hotter than when moving.

I agree. The only time you'd need to sit idling before shutting off is after a spirited drive or sustained high speed run. You're better off driving more gently before stopping so that air cooling is allowed to do its job. To go back to the OP, I'd say there really isn't a downside to using a tt in traffic (compared to NA) - the assisted clutch is certainly easier. Fuel consumption might be in the low 'teens though.

The best advice you can get here is from ca993twin. I bought my tt pretty much based upon his advice. The best car decision I ever made, go for it, life is short!

Have owned both. The cars are nearly identical until the the boost comes on in the turbo. I actually miss my C4S. Both are great cars. Unless I'm on the boost, I don't do any special idling to cool the turbos down.

Some more cash to invest in tt, some more luxury in it. Most of everything is similar: daily driving, ease of use, even consumption at regular speed. So why spending this little extra?...
You have to try a 993tt, get on the freeway, an try thoses little compressors a few times. Then come back to us with a grin face

The tt makes an excellent DD, I used mine all last year upto November as such, only real bummer is finding clear road!
Turbos only need to be allowed to cool if you pull up quick from a hard run. I don't sit idling and when I rebuilt the turbos a few months ago, I didn't find any evidence of heat damage or coking and they had done 100k miles. All you're doing is burning fuel.

Hm, I'm driving a CarreraS and a turbo.
The turbo is a monster and it makes a lot of fun, that's true, but it is much more difficult to drive at the limit. I prefer the turbo, if I go to german motorways, empty and some sharp curves between 140 and 180mph are really great. Such traveling is great fun.
If I go to the mountains, with small narrow roads and speed limit at 70mph the CarreraS is the much better car. You don't have to look for the punch of the turbos and the drift is really easy. If the turbo comes into a drift, you have the problem, that it becomes faster and faster and you always have wet hands...
In the USA you don't have so often the chance to use the punch of the turbos on the highways. And that is the only real advantage of the turbo in my opinion. The cons are much higher gas consumption, much higher service-costs and much more parts, which could make you a bad day. The 993turbo is stable for daily use, but I think the non-turbo is the better dd.

There seems to be so much debate about the cool down process for TTs, some say must do and others not, do a search on the TT forum and decide for yourself.
I'd have to say a C4S is easily more than adequate for DD, I've driven a few and use to have a 987 (HP range is similar). The TT does have advantages in say you want to pass in 4th or 5th gear etc without going down to 3rd for a quick highway pass or on a hill etc.
But my vote, if you have a nice C4S keep it. Change it if you can afford the additional costs and maintenance but for DD it doesn't make much sense. For track or more spirited drive enjoyments of power then yes it's worth it.

What's adequate fro some is not for others. Once they have the turbo, most people will not go back. And maintenance is not that much more. In fact, a factory TT is single plug and a C4S is twin.
