Turbo Twist for NB
 
Posted this in the wheels/tire forum but static so far hence trying it out here...

Regarding twists for 993 NB, I read a few search threads and came away a bit confused. Does Porsche make them? If not, how about aftermarket wheeks? Front should be OK because WB and NB cars use the same wheel, but for rear some remarked that NB cannot use WB rear twists (993 turbo twist, not 996) and some claimed they were able to do so w/o rubbing fenders.

I don't want to do any fender shaving...

Looking at a car w/ cup wheels and want to switch to twists. Read a few threads w/ twists for 993 NB but don't get the impression if it is even available.

Which ones would fit NB, especially the rear?

The factory did make Twists in rear narrowbody offsets...size was 18x10" ET65. It was available in both the hollow "Technology" version and the solid normal version.

For the front, the Twists were also available in Technology and solid versions, and in 18x7.5" and 18x8" sizes, both in ET52 I believe (or is the 7.5" in ET50?). What I don't know is whether both widths were available in both versions, or whether say the Technology was only available in 8" version (I have only seen 8" Technology wheels).

And just to make it more complicated for you, there is also a 18x9" ET52 size that was available on Boxsters. I don't know if these were Technology or solid versions. IMHO this 9" width wheel makes for a good front wheel to go with the 10" rear as it will let you run 245-265 width tires. Also note that 9" wheel will also fit the rear of NB 993 but you will likely have to roll the fenders (I believe Denise has these on the rear of her supercharged black cab).

Humm, further revealing my ignorance here... if 9" wheel makes for good front and 10" rear, why would using a 9" for rear require rolling fenders? Is not 10" more space-demanding... Appreciate your patience in pointing out what probably is the obvious...

Also, are you posting in HK? I was born and raise there...

The 9" is ET52 offset vs. the 10" with ET65 offset. The question of space clearance is dependent not just on rim width and offset, but also the tire size, camber and height of the car. If you want a "no-nonsense" fit with maximum flexibility on tire widths and suspension settings, then IMHO best to go with 8"ET52 front and 10"ET65 rear. That said, you can go with a more aggressive set-up (mine is :cool: ) so long as you keep in mind that requires more planning and sometimes compromises .

Do I read 8JX18 to be the same as 18X8 and 10JX18 as 18X10 wheels? I am looking at Midwest wheels and tires' website and it lists (aftermarket club and twist) wheels by 17X7, 18X8 and 18X10. I wish to make sure that is the correct translation before spending $$ on them.

Hey dude, check out my sig pic. These are NB twists I used to have on the car. They are NB fitment. IIRC, they were 7.5 et 50 front and 10 et 65 rear. What you stated above all means the same. The J doesn't change the fact that they are 8" or 10" in width. So 7.5 or 8" fronts all work fine. Be careful with the rear though. Porsche do make 10x18" but with et 40 for the WB. In the past, I have gone as far as 10" rears with et 58 and no problem there. Hope all this make sense.

i have replicas on my NB... i like them, im not tracking the car or anything, they are on the heavy side but they work great(?).... its a wheel... no problems so far...

I'd love to trade with you, but... the Cups are chromed. That's what prompted the whole search for twists to begin with. Now if you don't mind chrome PM me and we can chat... :cheers:

Yep, most likely going aftermarket. NB factory twists are hard to come by. I don't drive anywhere close to 6 or 7/10 the capability of the car so heavier unsprung weight doesn't fazed me.
