Default The ONE common factor of all these really high priced 993s lately?

They're not selling at these premium list prices.

There have been several high-priced 993s for sale lately. Some are wondering what is making these prices so high? Is it a rare color? Is it the low miles? What is making some of these cars fetch such high premiums? Truth is, they're not.

The fact is, the market hasn't changed. Really, it just has spoken clearly. Those cars are not fetching the higher prices the sellers listed them at.

Recently, one 993 in a special color was bid to over six-figues on eBay. Turns out, the bids were fraudulent, so that selling price is fake and the car didn't sell for that.

Another convertible 993 in the same color, also on eBay, failed to get any higher than $45K, which, given the miles and condition, is right about where it should sell for. Too bad the reserve was set higher than $45K. No sale at $45K then.

There have been some others on RL classifieds and eBay recently with low miles, all priced high, all not sold.

So the market for 993s hasn't changed, or gotten "hot" for any special color. All that has happened is there are those who have priced their cars at very "ambitious" prices.

All have failed to sell their cars so far.

The market dictates price, not the seller.

And as I posted over on the other thread, we seem to be way, way, way too preoccupied with the money part of the equation.

Who'd still own one if you knew, upon buying, you would not get one dime out of the car on the back end?

What would you consider a premium list price for a 1998 C2S with 22K miles?

Both RB cars you mention will likely sell at premium prices, just not as much premium as the sellers expected. And they'll likely be sold privately. Honestly, I feel somewhat badly for both sellers. I'm assuming both sellers have "left the building" because, rightly or wrongly, they must feel persecuted here. No one is perfect and I'll be the first to admit that make mistakes all the time.

I liked both cars and would be happy to own them. Alas, I cannot afford them.

I agree with Ken and I believe that 993s are not investment vehicles but are owned by enthusiasts to drive and enjoy.

And I might add that I may be the only one on Rennlist who thinks that RB is not worthy of the premium. I think the color is not particularly attractive. There...I said it.

Im still looking for a C2S(really want Polar), but there's no way Im paying near what I paid for my 993TT; even if it's the only one in the country with a certain color, ie, smurf blue.

You may be right, but the market has just said otherwise.

eBay, with all it's flaws, does expose a car to a very wide diverse set of buyers, and it appears that although a very select few buyers may pay a premium for a special color, so far they have not shown interest at a price far above market value.

Well, me for one....life's too short, and I'm too old. Patience is a virtue, etc, etc, etc.

Almost 27 months of ownership in, and I just rolled into my 27K mile driven. Bought at 63K, just rolled past 90K on the drive into work this morning.

I celebrated by reaching down to my cup holder, pulling my stainless coffee mug from it, and raising it in a toast.

Car owes me nothing at this point, and I could honestly care less if it was worth nothing if/when I'm done with it.

Besides, I've always been a buy high, sell low kinda guy.

It seems to me that some of the bids in the high 70's for that RB C2S were legit. That;s not far from what the car cost when new! Nice.

...and $70K isn't too far off the mark for what one might pay for any 1998 C2S with 12K miles in ANY color, right?

That, and this last convertible RB non-sale sorta bursts the bubble about people paying far above for RB, doesn't it?

I made mine...simple 4 hole "L" bracket, 1/4" hardware, and a standard bicycle bottle cage. It does limit the forward movement of the seat somewhat-I have HB Sports, standard seats might be different.

Very practical location, cheap and simple. Looks nice enough to my eye.
