Same here and I know Booman993 mentioned that too....would be keen to know why?
Not to thread jack here but does your steering feel loose too or shudder?

Some specs on your car would be good.
Stock shocks or springs or aftermarket
If aftermarket when replaced (mileage)
Swaybars?
Wheel alignment
Tires (Size, age, pressures etc)

I have had my '96 993 since 1996 and the front end has never "floated". I would have someone look at the shocks first. (Maybe also look at the size of the front tires to make sure they are correct)

Stock suspension OR old suspension - I went from factory suspension with 60k miles to PSS10 and the car is much more planted.. also the RS engine mounts helped tighten up the ride in the corners.
Now, having everything in the back does change the dynamics of the car, you get more of a speedboat feel with the back end sitting down - that is just physics. I think 1/2 is tightening up the slop in the car and 1/2 getting used to driving it. I didnt feel as much on the track as i was bombing into the corners under HEAVY breaking as i do on the street.. it's slow in and fast out for 911's
phil.

I think that that the front end does feel light in a 911 compared with other cars but it should not feel like it floats. When I was looking for cars, I drove a nice low miles example that had original shocks and it had the same sensation as when I drove an original vw bug. My current car with Bilstein HDs and M030 springs feels nothing like that. So yes, have the shocks looked at. If they are originals, for sure that is the problem.

if the handling doesn't feel right, you need to have it checked. a well set up 911 handles like a dream.

Your next option would be to check your alignment settings.
I had a similar feeling before my car got aligned, I wouldn't described it as floating but the car def didn't feel as planted, turns out my left and right toe setting was off.
I'm new to the rear engine setup too, you may want to look into some driving techniques such as loading up the weight in the front (for grip) or trail braking into corners. There is really an art to driving these cars right.

Not to hijack, but what determines the need for an alignment if the tie wear appears
even ?
Is it a normal course of action after tire replacement or is there a time frame ( say after 2 years ?)

First - Safety
Second - your style of driving
When I purchased my car, it did several things i did not want it to do.
When I drove over white stripes on the road, the steering wheel pushed by itself following the white stripes.
It over steered as well, and steering was (so called) very precise.
It used to aquaplane like hell.
Years after, i do the alignment myself.
I follow the exact figures on the factory sheets.
I fine tune toe in/out meticulously.
Ie: I do the alignment, go for a ride, recheck toe and adjust, two to three times, until toe reads constant.
As a consequence, no aqua planing ever, on low or high speed.
Hard braking is straight at high speed, even without hands on steering wheel.
No juddering on high speed, irregular road braking.
No floating on high speed corner braking.
No under steering or over steering, at the speeds I drive at on highway entrances.
Although the settings suit me great, the rear wheels inner surfaces get worn faster than the outsides.
As a consequence, I recheck the figures on my beissbarth alignment machine, and the figures are factory, so I neglect the fact of the rear wearing from inside more.
As long as it handles securely, and suits my driving, I rest confident.
Ps: when I say high speed driving, I mean as a regular autobahn customer at above 200 km/h, without being pretentious, and yes my car is driven under pouring rain regularly
