Had a new windshield installed on the C4, very happy!

It's been on the list for a couple of years now. Finally got around to it, (got a big crack in the middle). Fought with the insurance about factory glass, won that one.

Asked my trusted shop who do they trust for glass. They told me CarTech Auto Glass, they are mobil, car guys, & truly care about their work.

They pull out my glass, said it was a poop install. The we find some surface rust at the lower part of the drivers side & a small spot on the drives side. Well after he ground, sanded & prepped the fix went 1/2in out of the glass seal. So I had a airbrush guy come to touch it up. The install is perfect, the glass is centered & the gasket is even all the way around!! It feels like a new car!

I had it done at a local detail shop, as they were putting ClearPlex windshield film on the windshield. I'm also very pleased & happy with that install. My class will not put, or chip with the "clear bra" on the glass. You don't even know it's there. They fixed a broken clear bra on my drivers fender (Auto-X co-driver hit a cone & broke the seal to the film).

Best of all, this process took 4 days, & Metropolitan gave me the "shop car" a 2003 Boxter as a loaner. That is whole other story, but I liked it way more then I thought I would. :icon107:

I know you want to know. the total for the windshield with new gaskets was just under $1800 with tax, & the ClarPlex was $300.

Pics will follow, when the rain stops.

Mike - what is the durability of the ClearPlex in terms of wiper wear on our wetcoast?

Our (ICBC) insurance deductible is $200 for windshield replacement each occurrence and they replace with factory glass.

Would like to know what brand markings is on your new windshield? Thx!

Mine which was installed earlier this year is a Pilkington and has the P stamped on it meaning a Porsche OEM supplier.

Sadly, mine is $500, but I bet you pay double of what I pay per year. So it's all evens out.

Durability is suposed to be good. They have a special wax you are suppose to put on it once a month, or so. They say to be careful when the wipers are dry. It is made to be replaced more frequently then clear bra on the paint.

I had 2 windshields crack 4 days apart. So for me, it is worth it.

Actually in for a windshield repair next week, this clearplex does sound appealing. It seems the 993 windshield is just a magnet for chips and cracks etc.

Pilkington installed last week as well.

Curious to hear how the Clearplex wears....I read up on it online and it sounded from the reviews that it doesn't hold up so well, but maybe that was an earlier version of the product. Stealth what did the guys who did your install say about it? Curious because I really, really need a new windshield and want to do the Clearplex as well.

I want the Clearplex! What happens if you install it on a well worn windshield? I am just trying to prolong the dreaded day that I need a new windshield installed and the problems this will create.....

Hi
Are there and difference between the Pilkington and SIGLA windscreens?
The SIGLA was the original windscreen, hence why the change.

Thanks,
