Having tried it both ways -- buying a fixer-upper for a "bargain" versus buying a car that doesn't need work -- it's pretty much always cheaper (and far less time-consuming) to pay more up front for a nice car. The fixer-upper has to be really, really dirt cheap for it to make sense.

I think under $40K qualifies as dirt cheap for 993TT in Canada.
I also have yet to see "a car that doesn't need work" that doesn't actually need work.
