Fun roads in San Diego?
Hey everyone, I'm originally from sf bay area, now living in San Diego. Up north we have some epic driving roads, ie: skyline dr, wood side rd, portola valley rd, mines rd, etc...etc... Can anybody school me on some fun roads down in San Diego to go driving on? A buddy of mine and I wanna take our cars out this weekend. Thanks!

While this is in North San Diego County, I really enjoy taking the 74 to Palm Springs. You go up pretty high in elevation with lots of trees, then drop down through beautiful high desert into Palm Springs. Great twisty roads and not too much traffic.

OK, get out a map. Take I 15 North out of San Diego to Highway 79 East direction Warner Springs > County Road S22 direction Ranchita to Borrego > County Road S3 south from Borrego to Highway 78 (called Banner Grade on maps) to Julian. Stop in Julian to look around, there are some places to eat there and an old time ice cream shop. Take Highway 79 South from their to I 80 west back to San Diego.
Not as pretty after the big fire some years ago.

No fun roads here, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
If you want to "excercise" your car, South Grade Rd up to Palomar Mtn has got to be in the top 3 roads in N. America. That is going up. Down will put hair on your chest, if you don't die. A run down East Grade Rd is a little faster, yet more relaxing. Mesa Grande is another fun segment, some very tight twisties and some open valleys mixed. You really can't go wrong in our East County.
We used to do regular runs with a wild assortment of cars: Enzo, F40, CGT, various 911, 993, 996 & 997 variants, several F430's, 800hp Viper, etc. Last year we didn't. Time to crank up again, IMO.
