Default Good Sunady's worth of DIY, albeit with a little bit of a red face

I finally got around to putting the rope in my creaky windshield. Was able to go around twice in most places, but not all and used most but not all of the rope. My short test drive, including the tight turn up my driveway (which usually gives a sound) revealed no squeaking, creaking, groaning or other noise from the windshield.

Now to the embarrassment. I had been posting about -- and preparing for in my mind -- my alternator crapping out. Symptom was the warning light coming on intermittently -- usually at cold start -- and light staying on for 5 minutes or less (but not warm starts). Well, instead of my usual M.O. of ordering parts at the drop of a hat, I actually checked the voltage. All was fine -- regardless of whether the light was on or not -- at a steady 13.7. Hmmm?

So, I looked at my manual. The light that was lighting up was the belt light, not alternator light (duh!). I had assumed the belt light meant alternator -- partly because I knew the belts were fine and partly because the alternator is driven by the belt and partly because, well, what car company has a belt light?. A rennlist search and a little adjustment to the little arm inside the sensor and no more belt light....

Wow. Could have been an expensive lesson. Nice catch.
Like I always say, "RTFM!"

As you can tell, I RTFM only as a last resort. Not saying that it should be that way, just sayin' it is.

So it's not normal for the light to stay on for about 30 seconds after startup? Can you post a link to fix?

Thanks!

Did you buy the socket anyway? It's good to have around.
