Aside from the heat dissipateing effect of the ceramic coating, I just think it gives a nice clean and finished look to the back end. For me, it was just a cost-effective (~ $200 in NJ) solution, especially after spending countless hours trying to remove the rust and discoloration from both the mufflers and cat.

I have melted my rear bumber due to no heat shields. The shields were hanging loose so I took them off. With the open exhaust (cat bypass and RSR's), that was definately not a good thing to do. The bumber didn't exactly melt but the paint got burnt. Looked really ugly.
I don't think you'll get problems on the street with no heat shields but pitting in after half an hour blast at the track may get you in trouble.
While driving there is always good cooling from the air flow. The problem comes when you park the car with a hot exhaust.

That said, ceramic coating is a great way to reduce radiant heat and it is possible that there is no need for the heat shields at all.

If/when I do this, I'll definitely get them coated. I'm still trying to figure out which stage I want...I have Motorsound mufflers now and looking for something a bit louder than those but I don't want it to be obnoxious. I have sport cats on the car as well.

I ordered my Stage II 's in black for my 993 C4s and they are the sweetest looking and sounding things ever made !!!

I recently stopped by my local Porsche dealership to pick up a part and nearly the entire showroom emptied out to check out my car, I walked back out to see it surrounded by 8-10 guys with two guys looking underneath at my Fisters

The only people still in the showroom were delivering a new car : )

Darin is a genius
