Hi I am new to porsche seen and have to say this site has been a great help in some problems i have had with the car so thankyou to everyone.

I have a 1994 993 cab tip and want to convert to manual and looking for some one that has a conversion to do so. If anybody can help that would be great.

Wow, that is a big job, to convert a tip to a manual.
I know of one other 993 in Australia that has been converted.
I believe that the ECU needs to be changed as well, plus interfacing with the anti drive off.
I guess you will need a wiring loom as well and then all the electornics has to interface with all the other control units.
Again a big job, and it will not be worth as much as a genuin manual.

Good to see another Aussie here. As Neil said, massive project, but if you really want to do it this is the right place to start.

It would probably be better to sell the tip and find a manual that you like.

I did this to my car. I bought a six speed 993, put the two cars on lifts next to each other, and swapped both ways. I bought a tiptronic harness so that I didnt have to remove the harness or any wires from my car. It is s BIG and expensive job if done correctly. I'm with Howdy993, sell the tip car and buy the car you want.

+1, not only for the cost now but also for the possible loss in value upon resale.

The LA D kit is not complete if you want a factory type result. Having done a few of these types of swaps before, I knew that anyone selling a "kit" would not include everything unless they have experience doing the task themselves. That's why I chose to have a complete six speed donor car on site. For example, your speedo has the gear indicator for the tiptronic. Are you going to leave that in your car? Are you prepared to do some wiring harness modification under the dash for the brake and clutch switches (need switch and connector) and at the transmission? New shift knob, boot, getting rid of the tiptronic steering wheel? And on and on.

[aside, not related to trans swap] The VIN is programmed into the engine ECU and cannot be changed. The DMV told me that if a used ECU is put in a different car they have to 'flag' it as an allowed exception for that car in the state emissions database. If a new ECU is put in the car the dealer has to pull the data from the removed ECU and install it into the new one.

You may not need a 6 speed ECU when you don't have OBD II. For anyone considering this swap in an OBD II car there are some serious issues. The engine ECU looks for OBD comm from the tiptronic ECU and turns on the CEL if there's no tiptronic signal. If you get a used engine ECU from a six speed car you have immobilizer issues. It would seem that the dealer could reprogram the six speed ECU with the immo codes from the tip ECU? The local dealer told me that they cannot pull data from a tiptronic ECU and load it into a six speed ECU. They said the Porsche software won't allow a software load if the ECU SW PN doesn't match the ECU HW PN.

I spent more than $10k getting the six speed into my car. Close to $15k when the cost of sorting out the ECU issues is included. Of course there were some things that I did 'while I was in there'. But with the price of the LA D kit I don't think it could be done for much less.

Blah blah ... but if you want/need to sell the car one day just imagine trying to explain to a prospective buyer why the car is 'special'. Considering the price hit, if I ever sell my car I'd guess the swap cost me between 20k-25k USD. With the tip my car (97 C2S) was probably worth about $35k. I could have bought a nice six speed 993 for $55k+. :soapbox:

edit: Spelling ... when I get on a rant I can obviously type faster than I can think. The bottom line is, I have done this. I would not do it again.

Looks like I have to rethink the tip to manual deal and just stick with the tip for now.
And just put a single turbo on the car.

I would beg to differ from most of these posts. Australia is a completely different market than the US for these cars.

What is the price difference between a manual and an auto there?

What is the approx cost of conversion down under?

What is the supply of these cars look like?

If supply of 993s are low in your area, especially a right hand drive, a value increase is not out of the question.

I ended up converting my car to manual with a 997 gt3rs gearbox and I am happy with the result I also twin turbo the engine put in motec m130 with knock control e85 flex fuel rsr body flares electric hyd power steer and list just gets bigger. So most would see it that I wrecked the car but I have had fun doing it.
