$*&#^$^@$....
Edit: okay okay okay, breathing, breathing...but that HAS to be it. It makes perfect sense. How hard is it to re-set the timing? In car job or am I dropping again? Do I need new chains?

I hope I'm wrong, but I seem to remember seeing your crank pulley off at some point in one of the videos. Hence my question.
Pick up the red phone and call MikeJ - I think he is the reigning champion of 993-engine-retiming-with-engine-in-car...

I have been following this thread (and the other) for days now - Andreas deserves kudo's for this - I knew that big head of his was the repository of many things but it is just scary that he was able to pull out this piece of info. My hat is off to you Andreas - and perhaps a case of Doghead's finest.

Agreed! I really do think this is the problem, thank you Andreas! Definitely owe you one (or a case, hah). And if it's not too bad of a job, it's good news I suppose since it's just a matter of making an adjustment (I hope!). These aren't interference engines are they..?
I mean it's somewhat of an oddball thing to happen but I am a little irritated at myself for waiting so long to do a compression test..

Travis,
These are interference engines so I truly hope you didn't bounce the valves against the pistons trying to start it over and over. If it's just a few degrees you might be OK but you won't know until you look. If you have a bent valve, it won't go all the way back to the closed position. You can tell by the rocker of that particular cylinder having too much play.
Good luck, you'll need it now the most.

Wow! What a journey this has been so far.
This thread has been one hell of a roller coaster ride and due credit to you and all the guys that have contributed so far. I've sat here scratching my head wishing that someone would come up with a solution. Now it all makes sense!
Well done Andreas.
Hope all goes well with the valves and the timing wasn't out too far.
Keep at it Travis. Bloody fantastic effort.
