Default Exhaust System

I was considering purchasing a header muffler kit with cats from Fab Speed. They can't guarantee that I will still meet the emmisions and don't have any references when I asked for some. Anyone here bought and installed one of these packages?

I wanted to change the high restriction cats to low restriction, improve the engine sound and get some additional HP.

Pretty much chasing a unicorn on a 993. Consider the difference from 100% stock (and 125K miles) to a header/low restriction cat-less exhaust on my Weiner built 3.8 is less than 15 hp. Amounts to less than 2 mph terminal speed entering T1 @ Thunderhill. Not even noticeable at Sears. (Don't ask about Laguna--sound restrictions make stock iffy.)

Off topic, but boy, the spider in your avatar is stunning. I'm struck by how modern it looks, 55 years on.

I have some stock unmodified mufflers coming because as much as I also like the sound of music coming from my engine, it wears thin on longer drives.

I might have some RSR modified mufflers available this summer.

From everything I've read here on RL, changing out the headers will not yield any performance gain. The stock 993 headers are really good. The cat is another story. Can't help w/ the emissions question. I have DACH sport cats and passed smog check with them here in CA.

I don't know what the laws are in Canada but in California you need to have an OBDII certified cat for your car to pass the visual portion of the smog test. Passing the tail pipe test is a whole other issue and you can pass the emissions test with a 100 cell cat if it's coated properly.
I know when I went for a smog the guy spent some time staring at the exhaust and poking around under the hood. I am not sure what he was looking for, but it made me nervous since the SAI system was removed.
Don't expect miracles on power gains, but you will enjoy the sound! The stock cats are metallic cored and are somewhere around a 400 cell count. They are really not bad for flow.

They also can't guarantee their HP gain claim either.

Its hillarious reading what some members on motorcycle forums claim they get in power gains...without doing a dyno run.
