Pull two pins, cover with electical tape and you are good to go. Spoiler moves only via the ****, and raises by default at 76 MPH (and must be manually lowered).
With the "automatic up" circuit disconnected, how does your spoiler automatically go up at 76 MPH? From what I could gather on the thread you linked, it should be manual up and manual down. There is no mention of going up automatically at all. A big plus if it does, though.

There is a DIY on making a 993 spoiler operate manually, and it's more involved than just pulling a couple of wires. Looking at the pictures of the 964 controller and the 993 controller, the controllers and connections appear to be different. Might just be the camera angle, though.

I just took a peek at the 993 wiring diagram for the spoiler module, and indeed the pinouts for the connector are the same as the 964 as far as the central informer spoiler light (pin 8, green) and the speed sensor output (#12, white/red), so doing the same DIY mod as described in the thread that was linked to, should have the same result - spoiler will be manually operated only, no speed-dependent operation. I'm going to have to try this.

Thanks for the response.

It's interesting to see what parts stayed the same or were modified by Porsche through the generations. They even changed the location of the control box during 964 production, from under the passenger seat to passenger side dash.

I don't think Garrett had tested his "mod" at speed when he posted. I can definitely confirm that the spoiler automatically raises at 75 mph. I think there's even some mention of that in the driver's manual...(I'll check).

I'm interested in this mod as well. Please lets us know how it works out. I'm away from my 993 for 5 more months but this will likely be my first official mod.

911Jettta - Nice color on your 964!

I just did the mod and went for a test drive. Yep, it's confirmed. The spoiler is now completely manual. The mod was even easier than I expected...it literally took under 2 minutes from start to finish.

All you have to do is unplug the 12-pin connector, take the back off of it (it's designed to come apart), remove the #8 green pin and #12 white/red pin from their slots, snap the back cover back on, wrap the two loose pins with electrical tape, and plug the connector back in. Sorry, it went so fast I didn't take pics.

The spoiler raises and lowers at any speed you like using the rocker switch on the console. There is no longer any automatic operation.

Great! Did you happen to get to 80 to see if it went up automatically like 911Jetta's? From what I gather, the 993 circuit is the same as the 964, so it seems odd that his would go up automatically after disconnecting the "automatic" feature and not on a 993.

It would be nice if there was a default for raising automatically at higher speeds as I'd likely forget to do that on the rare occasion that I'm doing the speeds at which the spoiler should be up.

Yes, I had it over 80. With the speed input wire removed from the connector, automatic operation is impossible, regardless of speed. I don't see why the 964 would be any different.

I want mine to go up and down all the time so it will wear out and I will have to replace it with an RS tail.

+1 on the rs tail, although I'm giving serious thought to the duckbill after seeing the pics of the AR.

Performed the same mod last night and I can confirm that Spoiler doesn't operate automatically at highway speed. No warning lights on dash. Spoiler still operates at the touch of button.
