Thanks for this DIY.
I cannot get my Tach out to change the OBC back light despite some time cursing at it, so have to take the steering wheel out.
This detailed post is most appreciated.

One more that has gone for the 3 spoke. Came out of my 996 track car and was sent to Dallas. This is the result. And the 996 got at new cup steering wheel from Gert.

As a FYI, taking the steering wheel air bag off required a lot of torque, as mine apparently has been Loctited in place, and a screwdriver style Torx 30 just would not do the job. I would need a long torx to go onto a big ratchet.
I cursed at the car some more, and the tachometer came out, allowing me to change the bulb. I used a Superbright B-84d-W. I found their B-84d-WHP was too bright in a place designed for a .9watt bulb. Glad I bought both to try which one I liked best.

I had mine off to replace the turn signal cluster. The plastic on the rotating spring device can be very brittle after all these years. In my case the metal spring installation lock was all bent out of shape and I broke the plastic alignment pin that allows the connector to follow the steering wheel's rotation.. I used some electrical tape to perform the same function as the install lock and repared the pin with a little fish tank tube and some glue.

Add another steering wheel swap to the list. I decided to go with a DCT 96T because of the smaller diameter (and it looks cool). Ivan at DCT was easy to work with and very responsive.
Of course, nothing great happens without some pain. I installed the wheel this weekend, before pulling the car out of hibernation. That went smoothly. However, upon reconnecting the battery and firing the car, I found that one of my window switches decided to leave this world. You win some; you lose some. Anyway, I love the wheel; it feels great from the short spin I took in the car, which would have been longer except my inspection expired in February and Henrico county cops are everywhere here. Normally, I would have taken care of said inspection by now, but the weather here was horrible this winter. Anyway, here's a gratuitous photo.
