My Suspension Project and Other Odd Jobs
What started out as a simple updating and lowering of my 100k mile suspension turned into a much longer and time consuming project. The original plan started with Bilstein HD's, ROW M030 springs and sways and walrod bushings. I had decided not to go too crazy with the cleaning - just a little here and there... and then it spread like a disease - there is still a ton more to do, but if I wanted to drive my car before winter I had to stop now.
Once I got started with my original list, it quickly grew to include: complete caliper tear down and rebuild - all new pistons, and seals, bead blasting, powdercoating etc.,new front rotors, stainless steel brake lines, new tie rods and steering rack boots, new ball joints, strut brace, powder coating MY02 rims, zinc plating of anything I could zinc plate and wheel well scrubbing...
Today I bled the brakes and changed the oil in preparation of taking it in tomorrow for the alignment.
Here are a few pictures - I was bad at taking before pictures as everyday I went into the garage to work I would just dive right in. Here are a few after pics to document the clean - it will probably never be as clean as this again, so at least I'll have these pictures.
Thanks to the guys at FD Motorsports for the parts and advice. Thanks to the rennlisters who sold me parts. And thanks to Andreas for the proper sized caliper decals.

Steve,
My pleasure. And thanks for the box of goodies.
I've been planning a very similar thread for weeks. My car was on stands for 6 months and just recently returned to Earth. I can report that my completely-rebuilt calipers performed as they should on our recent Thomas, WV excursion.....

Steve,
Are those turbo brakes re-finished or your non-turbo brakes painted (powder coated) red? They look fantastic. My black ones are looking worn with some spots of paint are flaking off and I would like to refinished them.

Thank you!
Thanks - that's what I was going for - just with a lot less cosmoline!
Thanks. They are the stock little calipers repainted. After reading about caliper painting on the many threads here I had decided to just use one of the caliper spray paints instead of powder coating. I took them to a local powder coater to have him bead blast the control arms and calipers and I asked him how much to powder coat the calipers - he said it would only be $50 more! So, for $150 they were bead blasted and powder coated, and they did a great job.
Most powder coaters insist on removal of the pistons and seals (mine did, although from reading threads here there are some who don't) I had purchased rebuild kits from a rennlister (600RR - thanks Sid) in anticipation that my 100K calipers would need to be rebuilt - but in actual fact all of the seals were intact and the pistons were perfect - but I replaced them anyway. I found someone local who did the zinc plating and they were very cheap - for the price of 1 1/2 spring plates I got an entire box of parts plated.

My new RS tail is sitting on the shelf with the RS splitters, new decklid, turbo duct foglights, euro clear corners, high mount third brake light and soon to arrive RS skirts - all waiting patiently for the new paint job. For now, driving is in order - then this winter is the engine drop - then paint...

Thanks. The car has 100K on it - and the body shows every mile - stone chips everywhere. The front had been resprayed by the po - but it needs it again. So the whole car will be redone with a complete glass out respray. It gets shown every night in my garage when I go out to look at it... otherwise I drive it.
