A dutch reporter picked up number 000 for a trip on the Autobahn and cruising around. For those like to look, here is the video link:

Porsche does this with it's press cars for special/limited run models (Carrera GT, 997 Sport Classic, 997 Speedster, 997 GT2RS..). There are actually several "000" cars in each model's case. They are not part of the production run.

"Art" at it's best!

I'm probably the only one here who doesn't find the engine to be overly cool. Sure, the carbon fiber air box is tough, but, sorry, you really can't see all that much of the motor. Hoses here, starter there, sprinklings of caps everywhere. I'm sure the car is orgasmic tor drive, but the engine's looks don't do much for me.

Here, these are cool-looking motors (flame suit on, don't really care):

Porsche finally decided to use BMC cone filters. Interesting.

What eventually happens to these cars...? If they survive the journalist's that is.

Does Porsche scrap them, or do they end up in private hands?

I wonder, because I ended up with a 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro that was an early production model. It was used and abused by many before Audi inadvertantly sent it to auction...where I bought it for about $.40 on the dollar.

Funny, bought it in the summer of 1990...show room cars were $35K, I paid $15K. Well, it definately got me back over the years in maintenance.

Funny story, short version. After litteraly three years of a degererative running problem, the local dealership put their master Pcar tech on it. He couldn't trace anything, none of the color's of the wiring harnesses matched anything in the microfich's. He called Audi, and they told him that the car didn't exist!

His response, "well it's right here, I'm F^$@7&% looking at it"

That comment was priceless, the service was too...Audi covered almost 30 hours of tech time. A new DME, and knock sensors, and the car was a rocket(relitively speaking that is).

Mark.

No your not. Its infinately dissapointing IMHO. Like so much modern kit when you open up the bay and find it looks like a sewing machine motor with a plastic cover over the top scribed with the manufacturers advertising.

What happended to good old fashioned engine porn? They scared well break a finger nail under there and sue them? Maybe they worry well lean over and get our tie stuck in a air con belt?

One of teh reasons I love my early 993 is because when I pop the lid Im greated with this (old picture - now with more carbon fiber!)

craig001 06-25-2011 09:46 AM

The folks at Autoweek magazine pretty much called the GT3 RS 4.0 the best handling 911 variant they have driven. Of course at $185k it should be. Probably a bargain at the price as well.

I'm not too keen on the new engines either. The extra small engine lid opening adds to the lack of interest, I think. Actually, the 993 is not terribly interesting to look at in stock form :(. Now, the 9M built engine in the Singer - that's a looker, if a bit blingy.
