Next step from 993 a TT or a GT 3
So I sold the Bentley GTC and am now looking to upgrade? to a GT 3 or a lovely low mile TT. I have not driven a GT 3 so maybe this query is premature but which would you do? I don't care about depreciation or costs to maintain since I am in the fall of my life and those things will be the concern of my heirs. I bought a new 997 C2S cab with PDK and loved it for a short time but after the thrill of 385 hp wore off, I realized it wasn't as much fun to drive as my 993. Not near as involving. I sold it and after a brief disappointing ownership of a 550 SL I bought another 993. It's not as fast as other cars I've owned but it is always a blast to drive. I sold a BMW M3 for the same reason. The motoring press is falling all over themselves about how the essense of 911 is the GT3. You guys are waaaay more involved in all of this I am so what do you think? As an aside, I had a Ducati 750 GT as my only source of transportation in 1975. I loved this bike but was seduced by the motoring press that was falling all over themselves about the new Suzuki 1100. I made the trade and it was a bust. The new bike was incredibly faster but nowhere near as much fun to ride. I guess I'm saying is that power and capability isn't everything....what I'm looking for is fun. Thoughts? Cheers.....Chris

GT3
Hi Chris,
I had the pleasure of sitting in this car yesterday. Ask for Tom at Jack Daniels Porsche, he's a Rennlister and he'll give you the goods on this particular GT3.

Good luck with your next purchase!

Both are about the same in a straight line.
The Turbo is very smooth and much more civil in its manners.
The GT3 is much more a sports car. It is a little harsher ride, much more focused when engaging turns and delivers more feedback to the driver. The GT3 is a more track oriented car. The Turbo is more a relaxed date at the movies (arriving in style).
Driving a Turbo, to me, feels like a street sports car that you would wear a dinner suit in. The GT3 is more jeans and a leather jacket ride.

the GT3 high rpm range and sound will keep you amused. something i wished my 993 had in order to be perfect.
I love my 993, dont get me wrong, it is a great daily driver but get a GT3 with center muffler delete and you will be a happy camper.

dsfnctn,
Hmmmm. What an odd post. We have a question about getting a GT3 or a TT (I assume brand new 997 versions) for clearly street use, and you post about your car (which sounds terrific, BTW, GLWS) which is clearly a track-oriented car. Further, you dis the 993 for some unknown reason, and post a negative comment about the 993 transmission. I have never heard any other complaints about the transmission... sure, some like different ratios, but it certainly has never been described as so bad that one couldn't stand driving the car. In fact... the transmission is quite nice.
<edit> I guess dsfnctn's posts were deleted, which makes my post look pretty odd. Oh well, I'm used to that.

The poster just asked the guys that were way more involved than him what they think.having owned a 30,000 mile C2S I offered my opinion and since he was so so tired with the other sleeping cars he might want something that wakes you up. Yes the gearbox sucks on the 993 and any form of 993.

Judging from your sig, it seems you get buyers remorse quite often. How about a 993TT? Is raw, fun with the old school feel you love. And enough power that rivals modern aircools. When you are bored with it, you won't lose $$ when you sell it.

dsfnctn,
Thanks for clarifying. But you didn't offer an opinion, you offered to sell him your race car. BTW, you may want to correct your ad when you talk about "break fade". Its "brake fade".
Like any car, the 993 has its faults... the transmission is NOT one of them.
Ed,
I couldn't quote his posts... they were HUGE. Besides... I don't know how.
