Convertible top

Does anyone have a realistic amount for replacing the canvas top? I disconnected the power function and put it up and down manually so I would only be replacing the canvas. I bought a 98 c4 cab and the previous owner didn't take great care of it. there are the typical holes and wear areas. I heard from an indy that it could be $2500 - $3000 for the canvas and an install. Please share your experience on this.

I bought the canvas for $450 (aftermarket obviously), and had a shop do the install for $1000 in the Chicago suburbs. Very happy with the results, and felt the price was reasonable.

Was the aftermarket top the same style as OEM?

Cannot comment on the cost, but if you go ahead with the replacement, I highly suggest buying the more expensove German canvas if possible. My top was replaced before I bought it, but the top's material seems so thin, I cannot imagine it lasting too long. I bought a boot cover and it was made out of the German canvas. That material seems very tough.

I would save $300 or so and buy from here:

I did my research and this is the best price for German Sonnenland canvas. I also bought my new headliner from these guys and saved some $ over gaah. Funny enough my headliner came in a gaah box.

I paid $800 for the installer to do headliner and top. Most outfits will quote 12 hours of labor to do both.

I didn't get the GAHH top, but it was German Canvas. Has the same look/feel as the OEM...well, same feel except for the wallet!

Bought my top from GAHH 6 years ago, german canvas, it still looks brand new, even the rear window is, pristine
Only comment: make sure the installer has his act together and gets it stretched and adjusted, took me 2 days after it came back from the shop to get it to my liking, the guys at the shop can do canvas just not a lot of adjustments for perrfect or the Porsche way.

Paid $1,600 for inner liner/outer canvas including installation - looks great!

Gahh is pretty good quality top. But I've mentioned this before - their zipper runs in the wrong direction vs. the wind deflector zipper. Install a Gahh top and presto - you have to modify the wind deflector. Which is not as trivial as it sounds as zipper has to be cut out and then sewn back in.

Also, I had Gahh roof installed on my previous ca ($1,600 with headliner) and the top of rear window was distrorting a little. Not much, but for that amount of money I expected better.
