I was doing some spring cleaning and noticed that something has been sneaking into my garage and dripping oil all over the floor.

I guess it's time to jack her up and take a look.

I'm not sure over $300 for a basically useless part is real cheap. Pretty...well I guess thats subjective.

Close. I got a chance to jack her up last night and it is apparently the good ol' timing chain cover. It's leaking at the rate of approximately one drop per week so I'm not going to bother doing anything to it.

Funny you should say this... My car (105K miles) sat for 4 months last winter and developed a small leak (2-3 drops over the course of the winter) from one of the chain cover gaskets. After changing the oil and driving it for 2000 miles so far this year the leak is gone. YMMV.

I've noticed over the past month that it comes and goes depending on the weather. If it's excruciatingly hot, I get a drop of oil. If it's mild, I may not see anything for a few weeks.
