Sport hardback seat prices

Gentlemen,

Any idea what the market is for hard-back seats? Any experience buying/selling would be appreciated.

Thanks

$2,500 - $5,000, depending on color and condition. Black seats typically command the highest price.

hmmm - food for thought. I'm thinking of selling mine - blue leather, dark graphite backs - good conditions, no discolouration. etc.

Depends on heat/no heat as well.

On a related note, I sat in softback sport seats (in a riviera coupe) on Saturday and like them quite a lot, especially them being more open in the shoulder area. On a less related note, I put 996 hard back seats in my car two weeks ago and they are pretty comfortable and supportive. 997 seats are even more so.

If you do decide to sell, please post pics. I may be interested. Thanks.

I seriously considered a set of very good condition black hardbacks with heat priced, at $4500 plus shipping. I would have purchased those seats but had some issues arranging shipping. I did buy a very nice set of no-heat black hardbacks for $3500. I also paid for packing/shipping. I love the seats and they are worth every penny IMO.

I have heard that the 996 seats do not fit in the 993.
nile13, are they just bolt in or do you have to do some work to get them in?

5 Years ago when I had my '95 993, I sold my Hardback before I sold the car. I think i got $3,000 plus stock seats. IMO, You shouldn't pay more than $3,500

I am looking for some black ones if anyone is selling PM me.

Thanks

The 996/986 and 987/997 seats fit into 993's and earlier cars with minor modifications. FVD-US and Brey-Krause sell adapter kits for about $150 a seat. IIRC you would need two kits, but I might be mistaken.

I'm looking for some for my car, but it has a chestnut interior so I want either the rare chestnut ones or some that are worn and cheap(er), in need of recovering....

They require a slight modification to the rails (cut two locating pins, hammer down one tab). A total of 10 minutes per seat. Or you can buy brackets, but I'm afraid it would make the seat sit high in the car.

There are very detailed pictorial DIYs both here and on Pelican.

PS. My personal view is that $3K+ for stock seats is just.... mmm.... it needs to be put in perspective. It's 10-15%+ of the current price of the car. And it certainly is better spent on tires, suspension and, more importantly, driver's education. But if a person already possesses all those things, along with re-geared transmission, 3.8l upgrade and/or supercharger, shifter improvements, neutrally handling 993, I guess 993 sport seats are next logical purchase :) They are nice seats. It's just that they are slightly on the expensive side.

Would these work with chestnut? They are out of my S2 racecar. I'm told these seats were the early soft back sport seat for 993s.
