Thanks! Wife even stayed up to watch. After meeting many of the original drivers and seeing the 917's at RENNSPORT Reunion, it means more to her now. Must've watched LeMans 20+ times and it never gets old. Actually went to the premiere showing in Wichita, KS with the Wichita Region, PCA. The theater gave us reserved parking and seating. 40 years ago seems like yesterday.

My wife watched this time too....after we'd made the trek last year, she was interested in looking at it. Not much is the same, except all the tents, the Cathedral in old town, and some of the overall look. Love the sound of then 917's "on song".

We made the trek in '05 -- about 30 of us almost all rennlisters and significant ohs.

It didn't have as much impact on my wife as yours. She was asleep in the stands 20 minutes after the start. She did very much enjoy the rest of the trip, lol.

Well, we were hosted in the Michelin VIP facility with plenty of good booze and gourmet meals, got transported out to the 1st chicane on Mulsanne where we watched the cars while drinking more good booze, stayed in a 500 year old chateau, personal tours of the Lizard/Corvette/Drayson garages, hung out in the Lizard suite over the pits, viewed the driver's parade sitting next to Doug Fehan and Wolfgang Ulrich in the main stand where the cars stopped for introduction. She all of a sudden thought auto racing ain't so bad....

If you like the movie, DVDs can be gotten very inexpensively on eBay (Correction: I meant Amazon) --as well as the book, "A French Kiss With Death" that chronicles the making of the movie.

Discusses the development of the movie concept in competition with "Grand Prix" (the movie that McQueen set out to make originally) with James Garner, set up for the Ferrari and 917 crash scenes, a death in one of the the 917s during the filming, McQueen's whole life and relationship with Ally McGraw--lots and lots. Very good book on all the behind-the-scenes stuff.

Read the book, and then watch the movie again.

...and, if you're a real McQueen fan, you'll really like the book, "McQueen's Machines". Great pics and stories about him. He was the Real Deal.

Yes, VIP treatment does have an impact on the significant utha. My wife reluctantly went with me to the first USGP at Indy in 2000.

At the last moment my buddy was invited to attend compliments of Compaq BMW. Bless his heart, he asked if his friends could come too. Police escort to the track from the Hyatt. Fun touring the Team garage. Fresh salmon and expensive champagne for breakfast every morning. She too liked that trip. Plus having admittance to the hospitality compound allowed me to crash the SuperCup tent as well.

At Le Mans our chateau had seen better days. About 6 centuries ago. I think it was my wife who re-christened it the "****eau".

One memory of the week was driving to the track for practice, and being passed on the way by a Bentley driven by Sir Derek Bell.

That's creative use of letters! Too funny.

We sat next to Johnny O'Connell on the train trip back to Paris. While I am Porsche-fanatic through and through, the American in me came out talking to him and the Corvette team guys that were with him.

Flying over tomorrow night. This will be my fourth Le Mans (lived in London for years). Flying into London and driving over to Normandy where we'll deposit the girls. Then down the N138 to Le Mans. Staying with the Oreca race team.

All those here clearly passionate about sport cars and racing, must go at least once in your life. This race along with the 24 hours of the Ring and 24 hours at Spa. My only regret is I won't be driving a 911 there this year.

I happen to be in Paris next week for business - so I bought a grandstand ticket and am taking a day trip out to Le Mans on Saturday! No hotel room, though, so I'll only catch the first few hours.
