Why do 993's cost so much?

If you own one... +++++
If you don't, jump in soon, its only going to go up from here.
As far as supply, when the Euro was killing the dollar a few years back, many 993's went back to the father land, and so that will drive the price even higher.
Look at the numbers:
Porsche Total Subseries total Grand total
993 C2 Coupé 272 PS 14,541 46,923 68,029
993 C2 Cabrio 272 PS 7,730
993 C2 Coupé 285 PS 8,586
993 C2 Cabrio 285 PS 7,769
993 C2 Targa 285 PS 4,583
993 C2 Coupé S 3,714
993 C4 Coupé 272 PS 2,884 14,114
993 C4 Cabrio 272 PS 1,284
993 C4 Coupé 285 PS 1,860
993 C4 Cabrio 285 PS 1,138
993 C4 Coupé 4S 285 PS 6,948
993 Turbo 3.6 5,978 5,978
993 Carrera RS Coupé 1,014 1,014
68k total
Figure 1/3 are trashed/totaled/parts
Another 1/3 in rest of world
so that leaves like ~20k cars in the US.
How many 35-55 year olds out there who grew up lusting after a 911, and the 993 really is the last of the great Porsches.
Once you get into the crazy bits (Euro noses, Sports Seats, etc...) the number of unique cars gets even smaller.
Thumbs up for all of us that are lucky enough to own one..
PS... Just came back in from washing mine... Looks awesome...

Demand is higher, supply is lower. Add to that the likelihood that Porsche will never again produce a 911 that equals the looks and relatively smaller size and weight of the 993. Even 84-89 Carreras have a higher average value than the early 996's. The 996 was the least attractive 911 ever built, and the IMS failure rate of the M96 engines is a poison pill.
Compare the interiors. I think the 993 (and earlier) interiors look classic and functional. The 996 interior just looks dated to me.

+993 and I believe the GT3 has some 993 in it, like the block is 993....
Also the design of the 997 was based off of the 993 i.e. Headlights, fender flares. The 996 was designed like the early 911 styling very flat no wheel flares. No curves.....Serena Williams vs. Olive Oyl

I wouldn't doubt that at all..... My 911 ownership has been from a 911SC, 911 Carrera and now 993 Carrera. And each car has improved x100 over the other. I just attended the Porsche World Road Show an had the chance to drive the 997, 997S, 997S4, Cayman, CaymanS, CaymanR, Boxster, BoxsterS and Boxster Spyder. All the cars have more HP and drive and handle better because of the PASM then my car. But when I got into my 993C2S driving home I just like the Rawness and feel of the Air-cooled car.
