Factory Technology wheel paint color
 

I know the answer is here somewhere but my search couldn't turn it up.

I'm looking for information on the correct silver factory paint for the 993 Technology wheel. Need the name of the color and where it can be purchased.

Also, believe there was a 'more silvery' silver factory color used on the Turbo S. Information on that color would be useful too.

I've found that Wurth silver is pretty much a match for any factory painted wheel I wanted to touch up. But, maybe there was a difference on these.

Good luck on the turbo S wheel color. I've been trying to have mine repainted in the S color for a couple of months now without success. Went through a wheel shop, paint shop, connections at the factory in Germany and no one can come up with a paint code.

Apparently, when they made all 180 whatever of the S, they kind of made up that wheel color. Couple of coats of this, couple of coats of that...

+1 on Wurth Silber (yes that's the way it's spelled on the can.)

Just be careful though, the nozzle on the can is 'proprietary' and clogs very easily. Have a small container of paint thinner/Tolune handy! The nozzles from other spray-paint cans (or even WD-40) will NOT fit the Wurth cans. (Ask me how I know.)

This may not be the answer to the OP question for the special silver turbo S color, but as an alternative to the Wurth spray paint can..... I had a silver metal flake '75 911S a few years ago and had some silver base coat mixed for it. Last year I refinished a MY02 wheel and before that I painted a set of turbo twists. It's a perfect match for the Wurth silver in the can. The Porsche paint code for the silver on my old 911 is 8080-8010 if you want to use the base coat, clear coat route.

I believe spg993tt had some TTS wheels refinished by Protosport in NJ. Knowing him, they were done "correctly". You might want to check with them.

Dave, I just had several Porsche wheels refinished and powder coated by Wheels America (http://www.wheelsamerica.com/). I asked them about repairing and powder coating my BMW M5 wheels that are hyper silver. Hyper silver is very similar to TTS wheel color. They said they can match it without any extra charge. I know your looking for paint, but this is an option.

^^^I had mine done by Wheels America here in San Antonio. They, too, told me that they would match the color but, when it came out a significantly different color, they told me that "matching" meant finding the closest stock color they had. Instead of powder coating everything like they did the first time, they ended up applying a paint that was fairly close, then powder coated over that. Won't bore everyone with the whole story, but I ended up getting all 4 wheels done after 6 or 7 trips and re-do's to get the powder coating right. They had no problem re-doing it, but it was a pain to make so many 90 minute round trips. The end product was good, though.

Stahalgrau Met Matt. 1997. 61W

Orange. 2006. 8C6. M2
Rallyeschwarz Mat. 2005. L03C

They do not have a clue about turbo S special color, maybe it was a US pca or something special order. They will investigate and come back.

The only color code that existed when most of the 993 were built are diamantsilber system 1992nd 61M. Can one assume that it is the color code used in most of the wheels that were manufactured for the 993? Stahalgrau Met Matt. 1997th 61W and felgensilber Met. 1997th 9a1 came first at the end of production.

IIRC from my wheel paint color match crusade the 9A1 doesn't match the TT factory wheel colors. I did find a pretty darn good match at the local NAPA paint store.

Reviving the thread to complete the info now that it is available.
I was given last year the manufacturer's name and address, of the Porsche techno wheels in the east of France.
I visited the factory today, they still have a couple of 993 turbo wheels here and there.
Saw how the wheels were made and the molds, but the info I got concerning the thread is for Turbo S

The Turbo S wheel color was made there, and it is not paint.
They have this machine where they put the wheel inside, and
plenty of 99.9 % aluminum rods in an adjacent connecting cabinet.
The machine melts the aluminum, anode-cathode on the wheel, and creates vacuum in the wheel cabinet. The areas to be covered on the wheel are
bare, so the facia.
The machine opens a breach in the vacuum cabinet and let's the melted aluminum and air enter. A thin skin of aluminum covers the wheel facia directly.
Wheel out, it gets coat of lacquer. They said lacquer was very special and very very expensive, to catch on a nano surface.

They still produce for Porsche, and they where working on the 991 turbo to come wheel, that I was forbidden to see.
